I scanned through past posts & couldn't see anything relevant. My car is now 14 months old, about 30k klms & I drive it in manual mode probably around 75% of the time. Progresively over a period of time I have noticed that my down changes (4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd etc) feels somewhat slack. At the moment I engage the lower gear the revs jump but it is as if the clutch is not engaged & results in the car feeling like it wants to lunge forward for half a second before the clutch grabs.
I also noticed on my up changes that at times the DSG just dumps into the next gear. I know the up changes are determined by pedal pressure (& possibly RPM) by it never used to do this with normal day to day driving. Shoud I be concerned or is this just the charactersitics of the DSG over time?

Sounds like you are trying to use gearbox/engine braking - we are not meant to do that
Maybe the DSG does not want to engage the clutch because the road speed is a tad high for the gear
During services, I've noticed the DSG does sometimes get reset
You have to drive in auto mode to let the DSG recalibrate the clutch etc
As you drive mostly in manual this may not have happened

MJW I have notices that in my car it does exactly the same thing, but contrary to what Martin wrote (sorry mate!) it's when the revs are too low. If you have the engine spinning so it drips back to about 3500rpm+ then it doesn't do it. For those wondering what it feels like and they have experienced a manual car, it's like putting the clutch in on a downhill run and leaving it in for a second longer than normal, just enough for the car to start building momentum and then the clutch is let out and car engine brakes.
Martin I have to disagree with your comment because the standard programming for the dsg is to utilize engine braking over conventional braking to maintain downhill speed so as to not overheat the brakes. This is written in the manuals of dsg equipped VW models and the car should drop back gears when in D if you are riding the brake pedal.

Thanks for the feedback Martin. If anything the problems I encounter are hardly noticable at higher rpm yet most noticable under 3,000 rpm. The car driven in "D" mode is a slug IMO. I drive it in manual for the extra drivability & I am historically a manual driver so like to drive as opposed to be driven. Am I to believe that I need consciously drive it around in "D" for periods of time each month to allow the gearbox to re-calibrate etc?

Yes, but it really depends on context
Dropping gears at cruising speed to control speed is a mild engine braking exercise - no problem
Doing that in cold climates (EU, Sweden, etc) will result in you not having any brakes,
need to use the brakes frequently to get some heat into them and keep the slush off the brakes
When approaching a corner where we are going to wash a fair bit of speed off quickly,
the down change and RPM blip is done to match road speed, not engine braking
Anyway - let's hope a DSG reset and calibration does the trick

OK here's an update. Originally had my car booked in at VW Ringwood to address incorrect coding on towbar. When trailer is connected & car is in reverse gear the rear sensors go into panic mode!! Apparently the RNS510 should be showing a pitcure of a trailer on the screen & disengage the rear sensors. Anyway, first time I dropped it off (for 2 days) they had fixed that problem but stuffed up the function of the RVC. Second time I dropped it off, RVC fixed, still need to attach trailer to see if original problem fixed but now the animiated view of the car on the RNS510 won't appear when I forward park. The front sensors still beep but I just don't know which ones. Oh BTW, my lane assist is now not working either. Need to now book a third trip in to VW Ringwood.
One of the other things I asked them to look at was the DSG issue I mentioned at the start of this thread. Apparently it is functioning "normally". I might have to take a B7 V6 for a test drive to compare.

I've seen those trailer settings in VCSD - seems like your dealer is struggling a little bit
