Yeah it happens to me as well when i slow down at the lights. I recently just changed the DSG oil as well. Same thing happens. Would be interested to hear from other owners.
Just wondering how other's B6 Passats with DSG boxes behave when slowing to a stop?
Comparing it to our old 4speed BA XR6, the Passat is quite jerky when braking to a stop when the car changes back from 3rd to 2nd. I've found that I need to try and let off the brake a bit just when it's about to change to get it to slow down smoothly but it's still not what I would call 'right'.
Where our Falcon and any other auto car I've driven will slow nice and smoothly with a constant brake pressure.
I realise the Passat shifts back when braking downhill to help hold speed, so I'm guessing that is what's going on when I'm slowing to a stop as well.
Is it worth a trip to the service dept. or is it normal for a DSG to be a bit jerky compared to a regular auto?

it is noticable but only a fraction jerky on ours so feels just right. the engine braking is definitely ther which is a good thing.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.
Its the difference in an Automatic Transmission and an Automatically Shifting Dual Clutch Gearbox.

Mine does it too - not so much a jerk but you notice the engine braking more (presumably as the lower ratio of 2nd gear kicks in). Isn't this just something European autos do, even standard autos (not just DSGs)? I had an old Audi with a four speed box that did it too, and Peugeots do it.

I was thinking, the only way not to have that jerk and the engine braking will be to shift to Neutral everything you are coming to the lights. Will that harm your gearbox if you do that often?
Wouldnt be advisable.
Whats wrong witha bit of engine braking, ive gotten into the habit of shifting to Sport so i get more engine braking and at times manually overriding with the paddles.
Engine braking is good. I always feel more in control and it saves the brake pads a bit too.

I reckon it's a trait of DSGs.. this is the third I've had (after a TSI Golf GTI and a 1.9l Golf TDI) and all of them have been a rough downchange into 2nd.

Thanks for all the opinions guys.
We did a family trip over the last week (~600km on just less than half a tank of diesel ) and after the long run it seemed to be a bit smoother. Probably just in my head though.
At least I'll leave the dealer alone now with my whining.
