    Downshift Paddle intermittent problem

Was wondering if anyone's had issues with downshifting via paddles on the DSG (on our R36)? Occasionally the car doesn't shift down on the first tap of the paddle and it takes a further 1 to 2 for the eventual shift. These shifts are all asked for at reasonable rev ranges, eg. 1800-2200rpm in 6th coming back to 5th. Really intermittent and occasional, and generally limited to 6-5 & 5-4 shifts. Otherwise everything seems to work well when left in D. Worth tripping down to the dealer for or normal variance?

    Thanks!

Are you in full manual shifting mode or just randomly downshifting?

There is a detailed description of how the DSG works somewhere but basically, unless the shift is anticipated, it won't be immediate.

In full manual mode. Not a problem with delayed shift, just no shift whatsoever. I've been caught out a few times where I've been on the freeway in 6th, wanted to shift back to 5th, pulled the paddle, then wondered why I wasn't getting anywhere fast... look back at the dash and the car's still in 6th... 2nd pull... no shift... third pull... success! Have given it at least 1 second or 2 to respond to each instruction. I've noticed the slight delay in shifts on occasion and agree with you Rocket that it's probably a re-arrangement of the pre-shift... this seems to be an enitrely different behaviour.

I'm thinking/hoping it's probably paddle-related... I've not noticed the same issue when shifting directly with the gearstick.... time for a visit to the service guys methinks.

I've had this problem occasionally when down shifting while in Drive mode ... say when going down a hill for
example... or occasionally when overtaking. Doesn't happen that often. I've put it down to either a sensor or
connection problem (not sure how it works mind you) but if I try again and shift more firmly no problem.
I haven't mentioned it to a dealer in the two services I've had (forgotten at the time) but don't see it as a
problem that can't be managed... by ensuring it's a firm shift.
Let me know if you take it to the dealers and they are able to improve the situation though...

No problems with mine. The only time it won't downchange is when that would cause the engine to over-rev. Not sure what the mark is for an R36, but on my TDI it's around 3,000rpm.
