    Disable automatic door locking

    Hi guys.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to disable automatic door locking on my R36 while the car is stationary with the engine running? Pretty sure it's done through the 'Convenience' menu, but I'd like to be 100% sure.

I was nearly caught out the other day while the kids were in the back (with the engine running). Luckily, I'd left my door ajar.

    Thanks in advance!

I thought the automatic door locking only kicked in when you reached a speed of 11 km/h?

On my MY11 Caddy Maxi Life, I can disable that through the convenience menu, but that means the doors are not locked at all, unless I press the door lock button on the driver's door.

^ same on my Mk6 Golf, although i think the speed is a little higher than 11kph when it activates (around 15kph from memory). It can be turned off if you want via the convenience menu in the MFD.

Correct - the only circumstances under which the doors will automatically lock are if you have the auto-lock turned on AND the vehicle is travelling in excess of about 15km/h, or if you pressed the 'unlock' button on the remote and did not open any of the doors.

All other scenarios require manual intervention - pressing the 'lock' button on the driver's door, or on the remote.

Having said that - if the doors have auto-locked, and you open one door, only that door will be unlocked - all the other doors remain locked. Maybe that's what the OP experienced?

I think you may be right. I got out of the driver side and then tried to open the rear passenger side door. At that point I thought, oh sh*t I've locked both kids in the car and tried the front passenger door, which was also locked. Went back around to the driver door and the door was ajar.

    Danger,
Yes you most certainly can uncheck the box to disable it in the convenience menu. I have experienced the same issue with mine but the door that you open will stay unlocked while all of the others will stay locked. It is a little silly of them. The other thing to be careful of is if you accidentally lock the car with the doors open. They will lock, and when you shut the door, it is locked. Very silly idea. My old AU falcon had a failsafe for that very issue whereby if you accidentally lock it while any door is ajar, it will immediately unlock and sound the horn to let you know that there is a door open. Good if you have kids.

On this. My Caddy Maxi Life will do something similar. If any door is not locked, then instead of getting just one beep, I get 3 beeps. Now I do have an alarm and this beeps the alarm so it may be a feature of the alarm.

    Interesting Wai,
I haven't noticed on the R36 but I know on our jetta that if there is something whereby the all the doors don't lock, then the blinkers don't flash!
