    Diesel, economy, and reason why

I was wondering who has a diesel Passat, the main reason they chose diesel, and what sort of "real world" economy they are getting.

Please also mention the weather it's a 103 or 125kw unit.

I chose 125kw TDI over the GTI because it was the right compromise between performance, cost, economy and resale value.
    currrently... MY10 GTI | DSG | Candy White | Sunroof | 18's | BT | MDI
previously... MY08 GT TDI | DSG | Reflex Silver | Sunroof

Me too, the 125kW TDI I got is a great compromise between power and economy (and hence enviro impact). Before I even looked at VW's, I'd decided I wanted a diesel.

I'd never driven a diesel before... apart from a 4tonne truck so when I took the Passat for a test drive and then researched the running costs...

Well it had me at Hello..

I love the torque in diesels. I have a Cherokee diesel (its crap, i know) and its got about 300Nm of torque from a 2.5L I4 turbo diesel. Its sooooooo slow, but i chose it because it consumes less fuel than the R and i go off-road often.
I went over some sand dunes over the weekend and i couldn't believe what this car can do!! 5 people in the car 4WDing gear in the back along with eskies and other things, and it had no problems climbing some of the highest dunes!! I love it!!
BUT, im not sure if i'd buy a diesel car, im still to take a diesel golf/passat for a drive. 125kw sounds really good and i imagine thay go pretty nice!

I have a 125 KW diesel wagon and I chose it because of the economy, power and resale value. Driving around town I am getting 8 l/100km but I am reasonably easy on the throttle most if the time. On the freeway, I am getting mid to high 5's l/100km.

    I have a 103kW Tdi sedan with the 18's. Around town I get high 7's/low 8's. Cruising at 110km/h I get mid 5's.
