Deposit placed on R36 Wagon - A couple of questions for all you people in the know

    Guys,
Placed a deposit on an MY08 Passat R36 wagon (low K's black) this morning subject to an RACQ inspection on monday. I have a couple of questions for you guys that know about these beautiful machines. I was almost going with a Mondeo Titanium Wagon but this was a little bit of a pearler, or so i think anyhow!

    1. It hasn't been optioned with the auto tailgate. I know this was a $750 option, has anyone converted theirs to work automatically. Is all the gear there to make it an auto tailgate plus some buttons??
    2. It currently has just a plain jane looking head unit and i would like to add an RCD510 into it as i think they look real classy. Do i need to update the canbus as i have seen some cars with the RCD or the RNS in them. I was going to do this to my jetta but the whole canbus update put me off.
    3. Assuming that i do put the RCD in it, is it easy to get a reversing camera to hook up to it as this is my new family transporter and i would really like to keep the classy OEM look rather than some dodgey looking thing from super cheap.
    4. Do the parking sensors show up on the screen on the RCD or are they special sensors that are needed.
    5. Anyone bought some nice looking rear sunshades to keep the little one away from the sun as much as i can.

Sorry for the barrage of questions but i am like a kid in the toy shop. Getting a new toy to play with!

Umm, i think that is all for the time being. Any other tips would be appreciated. Can't wait to get is thing and make it my own.
    Thanks guys.

Firstly to run a Factory RVC you have to buy the RCD unit with the big yellow socket in it as in the pics in this thread

Gti Mk6 parts for sale Enkei, Bilstein, Recaro, Dunlop, Brembo!

Auto tailgate has a motor in it which presumably a manual one wont. The factory parking sensors show up in either unit.

If you buy a cheapo Ebay camera it can hook up to an RCD unit WITHOUT the yellow socket which is for a factory round emblem Golf Camera. The dealer sells sunshades for the different models

It may require additional components other than just the camera and the RCD, because the reversing camera has dynamic guide lines on it as well that move as you turn the steering wheel.

    4. Do the parking sensors show up on the screen on the RCD or are they special sensors that are needed.
I have a spec sheet for the MY08 Passats (Dec 2007) and the early MY09 R36 (August 200 - there is no mention at all of OPS on the Aug 08 spec sheet, but is listed as standard equipment on the August 08 R36 spec sheet, along with RCD510.

To be honest, if you're really keen on the OPS and RCD510, you might be better off looking for a MY09 R36 instead which already has both of these fitted.

    5. Anyone bought some nice looking rear sunshades to keep the little one away from the sun as much as i can.
The later R36es came with darkened privacy glass on all but the front windscreen and front side windows. It's not clear whether or not the MY08s got this, so it's worth checking.

for my 2009 Passat Wagon to replace existing head unit easy to install even though it didn't come with intructions there are web sites that show you how

so far everything works OK, Bluetooth great, loaded a USB with over 1000 songs so will never need to use the DVD/CD, (not a stacker) although screen hard to read in direct sunlight

Can anyone definitively tell me if the RCD510 is direct plug and play or do i need to talk with someone who has a vagcom cable or whatever it is. I was talking with a car stereo place and they were adamant that i would need to get the car hooked up to code the new unit in. Now i'm not sure so if any of you guys that know about this can reassure me i can go ahead and source an RCD unit. Cheers guys.

Going by the answers on the threads here it will be plug and play if you have the code and it hasn't got bluetooth

Look through the threads in the audio forum Heaps of info there including all your answers

Yeah, it should be plug and play. Once you take off the facia, it's literally a 10 minute job.

Make a post in the VCDS subforum and I'm sure you'll find someone willing to meet up to code the unit.

Doesn't take very long. Plenty of guides on the forum that'll show you how it's done.

    Good luck!
