Dent + scratch on front bonnet. Need advice.

    Hi,

I noticed a deep dent + scratch on the front bonnet this morning (just about to detail the car ). Looks apparent it's from a ute/truck reversing into it judging from the height . No damaged to bumper.
It's deep till the bone. It's about 2cm long. Any comments on where to go to fix this? VW or panel repairers? I wanna get it fixed before the rust kicks in.

Any idea how much? Will they just paint the area or painting the whole bonnet required? Its an Icelandic Grey metallic R36.

I'd just take it to the panel beaters, I don't think there's anything a VW dealer can do for you. I feel your pain, some tool has smacked their door into the drivers side of my car and left a nice ding and a chip in the paintwork (nothing as bad as yours though).

Ouch! I feel your pain..i guess no note was left on your windscreen eh? Some idiot reversed into my rear bumper too at the local supermarket. Has a nice dent there now. For your case, you probably MIGHT need to respray the entire bonnet.

I did a front bonnet respray + front guards on my previous car, a bmw 3 series, it cost about $1000 on the dot in Melbourne. Reason they did the guards is because the panel shop guy said the colour will blend in better if all 3 parts get sprayed. No idea if he is ripping me off or what -.-

Not sure about the price up north in newcastle. Go bring your car to the shop to get a quote

I had a truck back into my previous white R36 and they had to replace the bonnet and front grille and do a respray of the new bonnet and also on the guards to blend. Cost about $3,000 from memory. The only damage was a small scrape in the bonnet not much bigger than yours and the grille was cracked, but both had to be replaced under insurance.

I took it to a prestige panel shop over my way, they are accredited Merc and BMW repairer, and the spray guy was went through what they do to make sure the whole thing looks like new. Things like making sure that the way they spray the paint gives the same orange peel look at the original paint and they spray all the bolts that screw the bonnet to the hinges etc just like it came out of the factory. Even though your paint looks smooth enough, there is a slight amount of orange peel look to it and this is what they matched up. The result was that there was no way you could tell that it had ever had a repair.

Wow! 3k is really a lot.
When you say front guards, where are the front guards? Bumper?

I might go to the dealers bodyshop (Klosters) here in Newcastle. They should have the colour and technology (also the only acredited BMW/Mini repairer in the Hunter).
I'm doing my 15,000k service this Fri and hope to get a quote on the repair at the bodyshop.

Yes, $3k, but remember, the grille costs about $850 from memory!! Then there is the new bonnet on top of that and then preperation and painting. I think all the parts came to about $1,900. They blended into the guards and repainted the front bumper.

If you decide to go with Klosters can you let me know how you go?

I need some work done (two hit and runs in carparks and an egg thrower) but have been tossing up who to get it done by.

I've been told that Spectrum at Gateshead and Warners Bay Paint and Panel have very good reputations.

I had something similar fixed on my previous Mazda 6 about 18 months ago at this place:

    Bumper repair

It was about $500 they have a way of doing invisible repairs - not sure how it was done but it looked perfect.
