I had persistent dashboard squeak that I had trouble pinpointing as my hearing is not 100%. The dealer advised that it was from glove box contents and went away after he emptied it. The dealer was correct in that it was the glove box but it was still there when some vibration occurred from even slightly rough road surface.

The squeak could be stopped by pushing in the upper driver side corner of the glove box lid. I had limited success with silicon spray or silicon grease on the plastic hinges and latches, but found it stopped completely when I placed my folded windscreen cloth over the top of the glove box lid and forced it closed. It appeared that the curved “fluffy” lid lining was rubbing against the plastic body above it in the closed position.

I made the fix permanent by:
• Loosening the 3 mounting bolts at the forward lower edge of the glove box lid that mount the lid to the dash.
• A T15 torx insert is needed and only loosen enough so that the metal bracket that attaches to the glove box lid can move.
• Lay a cloth folded to about 1 - 2mm thickness over the lid and close it, forcing the lid downwards slightly. If the cloth is too thick the lid won’t close at all.
• This realigns the lid in a slightly lower position and is able to occur due to the elongated holes that the mounting bolts pass through.
• Tighten the 3 mounting bolts to hold the lid in its new position. The lid looks the same as before but the minor extra gap at the top now means that the lid lining no longer rubs or squeaks.
