crankcase breather question / help - 3.6L engine

i had been previously trying to sort out a random bit of hesitation at light throttle when the car is cold (i believe that this is now fixed - this is not the question of my thread). as part of this i was at one stage searching for an intake leak.

i have noticed that when i open my oil cap or remove my dipstick there is very mild drop in idle, presumably because there is now air going through the crankcase breather into the intake (ie i've created an air leak). i know that this is normal to a degree on some cars, but i'm not sure for our car.

there are lots of stories on the net of bad pcv / crankcase breather valves but not much info on the 3.6 engine.

can someone else with the 3.6 VR6 engine test this out for me and see if there is any change in idle when the oil cap is removed? i am hoping that my pcv is not bad...

thanks for your help in advance!

    Is it logging fault codes?

Even if it isn't, some scan tools can show the missfire counter on each cylinder. You might be able to narrow it down from there. Also bare in mind, that whichever cylinder is logging the fault, the ecu will deactivate the injector for it.

not logging any related fault on vagcom
i should have stated that this is purely incidental as my hesitation is now fixed i think

i have actually just been back to the car and i think that the pcv is actually working.
when i blow back into the valve there is resistance so the check valve component should actually be working.

in addition to all this i have noticed that there is a very small hole at the back of the intake, appears to be factory, just above the breather hose which goes back into the intake. its on the back of the manifold so needs to be seen from the side of the engine. when i take the oil cap off, air seems to be sucked in through this hole and it makes a loud noise. it i block the hole then there is no change in idle with the oil cap off.

so, in addition to someone checking that there is a slight drop in rpm when the oil cap is off, can you also please have a look and see if you also have this intake hole above your breather hose??
