    Climatronic - Recycled Air

Does anyone know how to turn the Passat 'Recycled Air' button on when the Air Con / Climatronic unit is switched off?

In other words, does anyone know how to stop air coming in the car if you don't have the Climatronic unit on? (Besides switching off the vents)

I wish this was easy to do as well, especially in start stop traffic!

I turn on the AC, put it on recycle, then switch the AC button off, with the fan on it's lowest setting.

I have read that the VW automatically switches to recycle when it detects pollution, but as to what level that happens I have no idea.

I've heard some people say it does it automatically when you put it in reverse.... no idea otherwise though.

You would think it would need a simple manual setting for dirt roads, etc

my salesguy told me that setting climatronic to OFF is the proper way to keep everything off.
if climatronic is on, vents closed, fan min, air is still going in through the ducts.
i don't know if there's actually a way to recycle air (to recycle would mean the system has to work) if you turn climatronic off.
*what about turning climatronic on (i.e. turn the system on), turn recycle on, and turn the air-con off?

*vw manual recommends not leaving recycle (recirculation) on for long periods because stale air makes drivers sleepy, builds up condensation on the windscreen etc.

    That's ridiculous.

Surely there is a way to stop air coming in the car if the Climatronic unit is off. Like in every other car I have been in.

Now that I think about it, I couldn't do it in my new Golf in Europe a few months ago. Maybe it's across all VWs??
