    Check door deadlocks

I've been meaning to ask, why this message comes up on the MFD for a few seconds everytime I turn the car off & pull the key out?

    Anyone know?

It's just a reminder message letting you know that the deadlock function is enabled..

When you lock your doors with the remote, the deadlocks automatically engage so the doors cannot be opened from inside or out, without the proper key. The intention is to remind you that you should ensure that nobody is left in the car when you lock the doors, as there will be no way for them to get out of the deadlocked car, without breaking a window or something.

For the record, if you lock the doors with the remote while inside the car, inserting your key in the ignition slot will automatically disengage the deadlocks.

That's interesting kleung. I had always assumed that the deadlocks worked but mine doesn't say anything on the dash. How can you enable the deadlocks?? Also, how do you know if the alarm is working if there is no beep when you lock the car with the remote!! I'm talking about the R36 BTW. I double press the lock on the Jetta and it makes a different sound so I assumed that that was deadlocking it but to be honest I haven't checked. That function doesn't work on the R36 as it sounds exactly the same as if you press the lock button once!! Interesting!

VW started introducing this message on MY11 and later models.

The deadlocks are enabled by default. In fact, I'm not sure there's any way to disable them even through VCDS.

Your vehicle alarm system reports its status through an LED on the driver's door sill. There should be a section in the manual that explains what all the flash sequences mean.

Works fine on mine - one press of the 'lock' button on the remove = deadlocked. A second press within about 3 seconds disengages the deadlocks. If you listen carefully, you'l find that there is a subtle difference in the sound it makes.

Test it for yourself - sit inside the car, roll the window down, and lock the doors with the key. Try the door handles - you'll find that it won't open. Now press the lock button twice, and you'll hear the deadlocks disengage. Now you still can't open the door from the outside, but pulling the door handle from the inside will open the door. I have a sneaking suspicion that the double-press keeps the alarm system disengaged too.

Thanks Kleung. I knew there would be a logical reason.

You are indeed correct Kleung. I tested for myself over the weekend. Thanks for the info. I always thought it was the other way around.

Hi, I'm new and just posted a question about the DSG. I also found a bit of info some genius posted on another forum regarding Deadlocks and I can confirm this method works on an Australian Golf Mk6 TDI77.

With VCDS, Central Conv >> 07 Coding >> Long Coding Helper >> Byte 0 - Central Locking without Safe-Function

The "Central Locking Without Safe-Function" option enabled means the Deadlock is disabled. Hope this helps.
