    Hey Lance,

I got the midnight express tint done from tint-a-car..in Melbourne though. Was very happy with the product and service and from reading some of the threads on tinting on here and other forums..some places are def better than others. But i can def recommend the product. Got my wagon tinted for $295.

Sorry, can't help you with specific installers.

    Good luck with it.

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

    Lance,

I had my R36 Wagon done by a Sydney Based Tinter.

Grant is great, he has tinted about 9 cars over my time (family, friends, wife etc.) and we have never had one problem.

    He does a mobile service.

He is happy to tint the windows darkest legal (35%) and will provide a receipt.

I had mine done at 15% which looks great - and it is still possible to see out of. However he will not provide a receipt if you go for this.

Side by side the darker tints look fantastic. A guy at the golf club has an R36 with standard tints and they look terrible in comparison.

All the garbage they sprout about insurance not paying etc. is rubbish. Rumours started by Tinting companies who only wanted to go dark as legal.

I cannot recommend this guy highly enough - reasonable price ($270 or $370 I think) and mine have all lasted longer than I have had the car (up to 5 years).

If you would like Grants number please send me a PM.

    Cheers.

I've been using a good mate called Bob to do all my tints over the last 10 years. He's been in the game for nearly 30 years owning several Solace franchises, and has worked over most of the tint jobs in my previous car club (fordxr6turbo.com).

He's the type of guy who is dedicated to do the best job possible, and therfore pulls all the door trims, rear lining off to do the job properly. I once smashed a freshly tinted window the day after with a rock, and he sorted it out for me at an hours notice free of charge. He'll do whatever tint you want, Metallic / Dye based, legal, illegal.

    $220 and his number is: 0411 333 069.

    Be careful..............
If you illegally modify your vehicle outside standards and ADR's you face the likelihood of action by the Police/RTA. This will involve having you car defected and maybe fined. Plus, having to remove the illegal tint so it complies. The Passat has tinted glass before you even put tint on top which will add to the effect of light reduction. I know this because I'm involved in this type of work and see heaps of people having to fix problems with their cars. They will put a meter on your glass and measure the light transmission through the sensor.
I'd be pretty upset if i had paid $400 for tint then have to pull it off ($$$$$) then have to redo it again ($$$$$) then have to clear the defect. ($$$$$)

    Craig,

Been doing it for years, never had a problem. Cars passed rego. Been pulled over by police - no problem.

My brother was issued a defect for noise on his car, had to go over the pits, no problem raised with the tints.

If worse came to worse, I would have have to remove the tints to clear the defect, but I would put the same ones straight back on - given it is so unlikely you would ever get caught again.

Look at all the limos in Sydney - most run 5% completely illegally. No problems with the plod at all.

I am willing to take my chances, given my personal experience on this one.

You must just be lucky as the Cops in Sydney are mostly younger and not as experienced. I can tell you in Ncle the HWP are a lot older and wiser and bust these people all the time. Every time you get busted by the Cops it goes onto the computer what your defects were and what action taken. If you continue to re offend they will charge you instead of giving you a TIN (day in Court where the penalty can go up to $000"s). The annual rego check is a safety inspection and more often than not will not look at things like ground clearance, tint etc. I have seen them not even look under the car at all???? I don't want you to think I'm having a go at you but I see this happening here a lot in Ncle. Must be a tougher town with the law I guess.
