Lane assist (if activated) operated at speeds 65kmh & above but only where it can detect marked lanes. Yes, during freeway journeys Lane assist operates all the time (again, if active at & above 65kmh). It is an awkward feeling at first feeling the wheel moving in you hands but it is not at all over powering & as long as you hold the wheel you are in control. Let go of the wheel for the first time & that is even more awkward but awesome as the car steers itself. As seen in the video above for the B8 it will go for about 10 seconds before sounding the alarm to take control. There is a point though to how much of a direction change it will attempt. It would be in the region of a 15-20 degrees of direction change. Once it reaches this point it deactivates but still remains active. Well at least on the B7's this is how it operates.
