Dyns are an SQ speaker, its not like you're trying to win any SPL contests with these. They are for lots of detail. Personally I'd ditch the rears, remember rears are just a 'fill' speaker, (or just leave the factorys in there for fill). Music is generally in front and to the side of your ears. When you go to see a band you don't have speakers behind you. You will then have more budget for the fronts and to spend on a good amp. Other question is what type of music do you listen to?
i agree with this, stuff upgrading the rears. spend more on the front stage (install, not just speakers) and think about a sub integrated into the boot neatly.

i've got the factory Dyn system coming in my wagon on Monday - cheap upgrade option really. to do better would cost way more than $1800.

I see that install thread is by Marty at FHRX, they do some beautiful installs. As pointed out above they have all the gear you need on special at the moment

Here is a thread where the bloke has replaced the non dyn system with some Focal 3 ways.

How to install midrange & midbass speakers into an R36 Passat door..

Thanks for the sizings - I've been trying to hunt these down for a while =)

Any idea where to buy the OEM kit from (and how much)?
AFAIK - the R36 Monsoon system includes all the wiring needed and it's a simple amp/speaker replacement + VCDS coding in the RNS 510

Buying the Esotec component systems are another option for better sound, but will add $$$

I'd expect 2nd hand Dyns to be much cheaper than new Esotec components, but they are hard to find. Not sure where to look for a new OEM package.

Listen to a variety of music.. rock, alternative, dance/electronic, metal.. - will probably also add a sub in the boot sometime soon.

i think you'd be best to brush up on your german and look to ebay.de for the stuff, or look at a VW parts supplier in the UK.

I got all of my DynAudio upgraded speakers from here: https://jku.com.au/

He's also one of this sites sponsors I believe. Very nice guy, great service and very fast deliveries etc. Don't be put off by the QLD location, I'm in Sydney and I couried up my RNS510 for an upgrade/service etc and I think the whole turnaround was 1 week only - not so bad!

I've also seen the front 3-way units on English eBay site too. They're not cheap, but the SQ is certainly worth the efforts. I didn't bother with the amp etc, the wiring loom is a nightmare to install evidently. I also did the rear woofers and I have the tweeters ready to go in but I've not done it yet.

I have a spare set of front tweeters that cost me $200.00. They're brand new, never used and I don't need them anymore, if you're interested in them drop me a PM and I'll see if I can dig them up for you.

Its not an easy install to do all four doors, but it certainly is worth it. The clarity is sensational and that just with the OEM amp which is only about 25wrms per-channel at best. Its more than loud enough for me anyway, I'm a film/TV sound recordist for a living and I need my ears to work properly. Anything above volume level 24/25 the amp starts distorting and that would damage the speakers if you went any higher for long periods of time. The max I use is volume at 23 or so - thats plenty loud for me!

Good luck with the search, it took me quite a few weeks to source all the speakers, and the install took all day too, but its worth it!

He revived my bricked RNS510 - great service

Got a quote for a 2nd-hand system + install (I'm in BNE). Will probably go with this one.

What type of car was it? Do you know if the wiring is already in place for an R36? They have the "premium" monsoon system with a 250W amp under the passenger seat and 10 speakers (like the Dynaudio system).

I have a fully optioned (apart from the DynAudio) 2010 R36 wagon. I've no idea what a "Monsoon" system is either, my car has the RNS510 sat/nav unit and as far as I know, that was the standard option when ordering the car from new.

I'd very much doubt that the DynAudio wiring loom would be fitted to a car without the rest of the system as a "ticked" option on ordering. I got quoted around $1k for the loom alone from JKU and I can't see VW fitting the higher spec loom to all cars unless the order specified it. Car makers rarely, if ever, install excess equipment without charging for it somewhere!

I have some sort of an electronic device under my drivers seat but I'm told its the BlueTooth unit... it seems awfully large for a BT unit, but thats what I'm advised it is - it sure looks like an amp, but whatever...

Good luck with the hunt, and lemme know if you want/need the front tweeters!

Do you have an amplifier underneath your passenger seat? It should have a plastic cover over it and looks like this one. From what I understand, that is the 8-channel 250W 'premium audio' system that drives 10 speakers. The RNS-510 output is amplifier (low) level and is wired to the amp under the seat with the 10 speakers coming off that.

AFAIK - all R36 Passats should have this? My R36 (sedan) is a 2008 model and the premium system is mentioned in the brochure, maybe something changed between 2008 and 2010?

I'm trying to dig up a reference to something I read about being able to swap out the amp and speakers with Dynaudio gear without re-wiring... maybe I imagined it.
