    B6 Passat Air Con.

    Hi All:

Any one had problems with their B6 Passat air con, in that it's not getting cold all the time as required. If it does cool down, it appears not to reach the set temp??? My car is 1 1/2 years old!!!

    Check your AC ASAP!

sounds short of gas: not good to run AC without gas so get it checked ASAP!

IIRC lots of Golfs had air compressors that failed, maybe the same problem applies to Passats as well. Get thee to thine dealer, it will be covered by warranty.

My Mum's Mark V Golf has useless A/C, doesn't get cold at all. But then again, the heater is ridiculously slow to heat up as well.

AC has a couple of switches in the system to stop it running if there's not enough gas or if the gas gets too hot.

If it's engaging the compressor at all then that's not the problem.

Euro AC isn't the best IMO. My A3 wasn't a patch on most of the Jap cars I have been in.

It's not set on econ is it? That tries to keep the car cool without using the compressor all the time IIRC.

Have a read of the user manual and see how it works.

I've been unhappy with my a/c since i bought my car.

Dealer tells me nothing wrong, maybe euro a/c just can't handle aussy wx...

Your car isn't black, is it?

Does anyone know if you can 'beef up' your a/c in any way?

Tinting the windows makes a huge difference. I haven't noticed any issues with the climate control in my golf or Passat.

Tinting may work for the biscuit blue.....

But it's made bugger all difference to the black!

I've actually burnt my arm touching the paintwork on a warm sunny day!

This thing attracts more heat than than an illegal street meet!

    A/C failure on B6 2.0L Petrol Turbo

I had a problem today which I haven't experienced before, loud metallic grinding sound with vibration through vehicle, engine speed dependent, A/C no longer supplying cool air. Increased load on engine, A/C wouldn't disengage by turning off! Got back home - just...

went to re-start engine, ran for less than 1 second and locked solid with a loud metallic crack sound. WTF!

Rang VW assist to come get it.

    Anyone else heard/experienced this?

Aircon in my R36 has been absolutely fantastic. Much better than my old XR6T, and my old mans new Aurion.
So far I haven't had to set it to MAX, just leave it on Auto at 21 and it keeps it there.

I have 18% tint, and no back section to cool down (sedan not wagon).
