    Auto Tailgate, R36

Hoping someone can help? My auto tailgate only opens about 60% and I have to push it the rest of the way up. Is there a method for resetting it?

    Hi,

You can reset the opening height of the tailgate. The info is in the owners manual. I am at work and the car is at home . I am sure that one of the other members will be able to help or you can always ring the service department of your local dealer.

If there is no joy, I will post the instruction when I get home tonight.

From page 59 of the Passat Owner's Manual. ( I didn't know how to insert a scan of the page )

    Deleting the angle of opening

    • Unlock the tailgate and open it to the stored position
    • Press the [ open boot ] button on the vehicle key. The tailgate will open fully.

    OR
    • Push the tailgate up as far as it will gowith your hand. You will need some force.
    • The angle of opening is deleted
    • Press the [ open boot ] button in the open tailgate for at least 3 seconds
    • the storing procedure will be indicated by the hazard light lights flashing

Slightly off topic but save starting another thread: can the auto tailgate be fitted to a wagon if not there in the first place? And if so, is it as good or will it be compromised? Just asking as I'm looking at the wagons and want to know if I get one without the auto tailgate whether its possible to retro fit this.

Do yourself a favour & include the auto tailgate in your order. If you are spending tens of thousands of dollars on a Passat, for $700 odd bucks it is worth every penny & will mean you will not have to go through any agro, ripping things apart etc. Retrofitting something you could have added in your order for a moderate cost is likely to cause more grief than it is worth...

That might not be an option if it is 2nd hand. Also, auto tailgate is a standard feature on MY13+

I love it and the ability to just press the button and walk way. Usually I am seated by the time that it closes

+1. It is great . . . shame it does not auto-close (using the remote or door switch), have to press the button on the tailgate.
