    Auto Tailgate

Hi, unfortunately I missed out in the auto tailgate option so I was wondering is there a DIY auto tailgate mod?
Has anyone here played around with it.

I found one video on YouTube but the guy offers no explanation how he installed.

    Cheers

It will be VERY costly due to the mechanism involved and the need to drop the inside roof lining to fit up the mechanics.
I wouldn't bother to be honest and I have the auto-tailgate option installed. Nice thing to have, but not worth THAT much effort and cost to achieve IMHO.
    Dino.

i've always wondered. will the sensors on the rear cancel an auto open request of the tailgate if you're parked too close to a vehicle behind?

    Hi Entice
From my experience the auto tail gate does not stop or not allow you to use it, Late last year while staying at a hotel in the city the concierge opened the tail gate into the brick wall in the under ground car park where they had it parked.
I watched him do it as he had the keys in his hands and I didn't realise he had pushed the button before it was too late !!, lucky it only damaged the chrome strip that runs across the bottom of the door.
The concierge's exact words at the time were "that didn't end well"

NO IT WONT as it can open with the ignition OFF and the sensors only work with the ignition ON

Also the sensors dont look UP so wont see above waist height EVER I have to be careful as I have a roller door behind it and have had to ensure I dont reverse too close as I hae touched it once Now have a stop on the floor for rear wheels as I reverse into my garage.

You can stop it by hand at a height that suits and it will retain that height for future use

Also the Euro version has a sensor under the bumper that you can wave your foot under and it will open So I have read anyway
    Sadly not available in Australia

Hi, good bit of info as I'd hate to find out the hard way that the tailgate will get damaged before it stops.

Slightly off topic, is there some way of adjusting the force in which it closes. I don't recall the demo car I looked at slamming the tailgate with the same force. I am concerned that the rear LEDs may fail with this continued thumping.

What I have found is the very last moment before the reverse sensors go in to meltdown is still safe to open the tailgate, provided there is no pieces or objects jutting out. As for it's purpose, I am a huge fan of my auto tailgate.

MJW, I was never really bothered by it but I did query this & from what I have gleaned there is no way to soften the action of the tailgate closing. I checked it with my dealer & read through copious amounts of info & the big bang force from the tailgate closing is here to stay. At least it leaves you in no doubt it has closed.... In saying that maybe stiffer tailgate damper arms could help, but that could then lead to burning out the motor etc... More trouble than it is worth.
