Hello to all!
I have stupidly pulled the auto shifter knob off & can not get it back on properly.
The car is a Passat MY10 2.0TDI upgrade estate/wagon with DSG 6
I can still move the shifter but have to pull a little white shaft up. I can get the outer shell it to slide back over the steel stick, but the button on the side of the nice leather hand grip (that you press when shifting) will not pop back out.
I am hoping that there is just an easy thing that you need to do to make it pop back out.
Anyone got any ideas? I am sure that I am not the first person for this to happen to.
Many thanks in advance.
I have now solved the problem.
This involved using some needle nose pliers to pull the button on the side of the hand grip out as far as it would go, you will also need to remove the little chrome surround around the button. I held it in place, slid the whole assembly down the steel shaft, whilst still holding the button out. I then gave I a firm thump downwards & I could feel the button engage. Problem solved, PHEW!
Be careful when pulling out the button with pliers not to scratch the chrome.
