I stand corrected. Looks like the VW guy was wrong.
Just had a look at the tech specs PDF and it lists the RCD510 as standard on all models including the R36. Now one has to decide whether it's worth waiting 2-3 months for that![]()
The head unit he is talking about is the RCD510. It is now the standard unit in all Passats, check the website, Passats have just been updated. There are many other little things that have been updated, especially with the V6, now called the Highline.

Just took delivery of my r36 yesterday after waiting 5 months.
Worth the wait as it seems it be the MY09 (it has the RCD510)
Build date on the car is July-08

Ordered my R36 Wagon with sunroof and auto tailgate 2 weeks ago. I have a 5 month wait... I think it is going to kill me.
I was told by the dealer that the head unit is the touch screen and so looks exactly the same as those optioned with the sat nav.
This means the R36 also has the optical parking system (as confirmed by the passat spec sheet) on the head unit linked to the parking sensors. So you can tell visually how close you are to objects. Of course the R36 does not have the park assist which actually does the steering for you.
This is my first VW and I am pretty sure it will be one of the longest 5 months of my life. Especially since I am driving a Corolla until the R36 arrives...![]()

Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers
I had to wait 6 months, in London, for a new-build Golf from Germany to be delivered.. and it's at most a 2 day drive from one to the other. Worth it though, I loved the RNS510, and so did my wife.. The only thing that made it palatable was the Golf GTi I had as a loaner until it arrived.....
Who would have thought I could get a VW in Australia faster?
Stick with it Gipper..i feel your pain.
Just got off the phone to my VW dealer and my car is due to land on our shores 2nd week of November..so give or take 2 weeks after that i should be behind the wheel of my very new and very black R36 wagon. CAN'T WAIT!!
Ordered 06/06/08 and build date was 05/09/08...hoping it will come with the reversing camera unlike the earlier deliveries. Apparently there is a new bluetooth unit/fix coming out end of this month for the RNS510.
So, from what i've read/seen and heard about this beast the 5 month wait will be worth it!!
Cheers,
Jayse.

we also ordered our wagon ( not R36- 125kw diesel, nav, xenon, leather, electrics) around mid june. dealer now says december. trouble is i've sold the wifes current car settling end of this month. this is 2 months behind original schedule but VW not interested in helping us out with a loaner in between.
Also i asked for bluetooth but was told is not yet avialable for rns510 - has anyone got bluetooth on a rns510? or is there an aftermarket add on?
Mate, that sucks!! Hope VW comes to the table to help you guys out.
As for the bluetooth, apparently the current BT doesn't work with the RNS510 but they are bringing out a new one that will..so that you can get your contact list etc on the screen and answer/call using the steering wheel controls. Should be out end of this month.
