Oh no! Just when they thought they were over the worst part past Somalia, they're now in WA! Poor ship and crew can't catch a break!

booba - this is the easy part so far. From experience, it's harder to wait as the car gets closer to you!

Worst part is yet to come - you have up to 2-3 weeks wait until you see the car (i.e. ready to get the keys at the dealer and drive off) from when it gets unloaded from the ship (no tracking at this stage of the delivery process and you can only hassle the dealer so much).

The gentle ministrations of the pre- pre-delivery people (i.e. before it even gets to the dealer!) have to be applied (all the stickers that they need to put on to comply with ADR's, as well as fitting of specific bits and pieces done locally etc.) . . . then the dealer's pre-delivery people get their chance to go at it as well with any dealer fitted options you may have purchased etc. . . .

Was in the same situation as you earlier this year (car coming from Germany, mine went via the US) - it only seems like it is taking forever . . . then again . . .

Good luck! The wait is worth it!

Still, all in all this isn't that bad: going back to booba's first post and looking at the date, we're talking, what? About 2 months door-to-door until you actually take possession of the vehicle?

Looking at all the non-standards I'll want for the Alltrack, plus what I've heard about DSG and 4Motion *each* adding a month or more (unless the European auto slump has freed up the pipelines), I'm expecting more like 6-9 months for mine.

Ugh. Just looking at a calendar makes me depressed. That means I'll be driving our current clunker way into next year.

EDIT: err, for clarfication: yes, DSG and 4Motion *are* standard in the AT, but add time, but all the additional stuff I want will mean that for certain I won't be able to get one of the lot at the dealer.

Marakai, they give you the worst case scenario!

In my case, I ordered mine (with all the options) in early March this year, was told to expect delivery second half of October (fingers crossed!). Got the car in my hands just before the end of June. So was pretty good. 4-6 weeks to get here from Germany and my car built in less than 6-8 weeks from my order date (this included any/all stuffing about by the dealer + VWA in getting the order paperwork together and off to Germany).

The build for your car will depend on where your order hits the production cycle - that is has to fit the right hand-drive production schedule and the paint-shop schedule (I think they paint them in batches of the same color - so if you chose a more common colour it will be quicker than if you choose a rarer color). If you are lucky, the delay is very short before yours gets built . . . on the other hand if you just miss the production scheduling cut-off then it may be a little longer before the next production run your car can be added to.

You may be surprised at how quickly it will get built.

P.S. DSG and Alltrack are standard on a lot of Passats in Europe, so would not expect them to be the cause of any significant delay. Re options - it all comes down to them putting the right bit in the right place as your car slides along the production line. Re locally fitted options - that will be done here so would not impact on the production schedule

From my experience the easy part was the boat trip over as you can more easily rationalise that part of it but once it reaches Australian shores then it's all bets off. It definitely becomes more tangible, especially when you drive past the dealer service centre & see it in pre delivery........

My car arrived in Port Kembla on the 14th and was ready for pick up on the 24th. The V6 is great!

    Boo, i bloody hope note.

My GTI was done in 3 days back in 2007 and the Dealer has advised that it should take them 3 days to process after they get the vehicle.

The car is already delayed by 2 months and they know that I am mega keen!, I will just keep hassling them

On another note, the All Track has keyless entry along with all sorts of other small cars in australia yet vw continue to delay its introduction.

Hi VDubbers, I've been offered a deal for a Passat 118TSI Wagon, Candy White, with Corporate Plus discount for $40K. No extras (I didn't really need any extras, will get my own tint organised). Does this sound like an OK deal? My first new car..
