No DSG here ! Basic jetta, no turbos, no superchargers, no flappy paddle gearboxes.

It did it again tonight, I had the MRS in the car and she spotted 'NO TP' on the radio. So we pressed the TP button to turn off TP.
I read the manual, and TP is traffic program. So this may be the "Bong" sound, telling me there is no Traffic info, and the changing of the station is its attempt to change over to the Traffic report.
I wear polarized glasses so I could not see anything on the radio earlier today.

I've had TP on for ages (just in case someone flips a switch somewhere and it suddenly works) - never had a bong I couldn't explain though

The 'ding' stopped for me when I turned TP off. Was annoying as it would come up spontaneously (no pattern to it!) and finally caught the 'No TP' display on the radio when it dinged.

Just like Ryan_R, I had hoped it would work and show some traffic info . . . so far the button on the RNS-510 is essentially decorative!

All the buttons besides Radio, Media and Maps are decorative 90% of the time

It also changes radio station all by itself WTF ? I need some time to RTFM.

Anyone figured out what the subtle bong noise is that sounds periodically? I've heard it in my car now on the odd occasion..

I've noticed the sound too. Have you noticed a pattern/consistent environment where it happens for you?

Mine alerts when there not enough GPS signal for the TP broadcast. I've deactivated the TP and the noise stopped. The TP feature isn't supported in Australia. So afaik it happens due to low/no GPS signal, "TP" will also flash then disappear on the RNS510. It doesn't happen every time in underground parking lots but maybe 6/10 times.

If you get the chime and your TP has been off, it could be because there is no paired satellites or another error. Just try to look at the screen as soon as you hear the chime.

Same here, whenever I enable TMC I hear the "ding", disable it and it goes away. In fact, "ding" is about all TMC does as far as I can tell.

That makes sense, the most I have experienced it, is on the drive to Newcastle on the M1..
