Yeah, mine does this every now and then. The "Bong" sound is just like on aircraft lol
It has been bugging me that i can't work out why I here this ding for what appears to be random times. I might not hear it for a month & then yesterday heard it 4 times in 1 day. The sound reminds me of the noise you hear when the seat belt sign on a plane comes on, but only a single ding. Nothing is displayed on the MFD & no warning lights.
Anyone else encounter this?

The GPS could be the reason as I don't use it all the time but used it all day yesterday & do recall that part of the journey was on roads not updated on my software.
I don't think it is the driver fatigure as I believe the MFD is supposed to show a steaming cup of coffee/tea on the display when this alert comes up.
Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah it's the loss of GPS connection - always wondered why I only ever heard it when driving up in the mountains (thought it might be a temperature warning) but you lose GPS signal in the forest areas.
Yes, I had the same sound a week ago on a drive to Newcastle, couldn't figure it out, then after some time the tyre pressure warning came on so I checked all 4 tyres and reset the system and no longer heard the random sound, in my case it wasn't the GPS as I was using it at the time and it had signal..
New Jetta today
Got the Bong noise 4 or 5 times in an hour driving home. Totally stumped, no Nav on this car.
It also changes radio station all by itself WTF ? I need some time to RTFM.

Alrighty, when I was having Mechatronics issues I was hearing a ding under hard acceleration. By hard I mean around up to 4.5K RPM. The Mechatronics being borked was causing battery issues and sensors to malfunction and for some reason under hard acceleration at any time it would appear as if the seat belt sensor would malfunction and turn on for 1 - 5 dings. This also caused the Speedo display to bounce back and forwards for some reason.
I do hope this isn't a Mechatronics issue for you.

If I'm not mistaken, the radio TMC might be enabled. I think I used to have that 'Ding' once in a while and I turned off TMC and it went off. Don't quote me but I might be wrong.
