Another Passat.

Hi everyone,
Sadly it looks like our Passat might be written off.
Someone reversed into it and the front rails are across a long way.
We've only had it for a year and it took me 3 months to find a good one last time but I'm not going to have that sort of time this time.
The smashed one is a 4 cylinder auto.
My question is what gives less problems? A 4 cyl auto or a V6 dsg 4wd?
I hear a lot about the faults of the 4 cyl and the auto but that's only because I've looked into it. I didn't run into any serious problems in the time that we had it.
What is the V6 4 motion like? I've driven one and I liked it. Do they use a lot more fuel? What are their issues?
I'll be looking at early b6's because I'll just be using whatever the insurance company pays out. I hope they don't shaft me too much.

I've been for a few ride alongs in a friends 2009 CC (V6 AWD), and it's basically an R36 with a different body shell.
I know some people like a bit more practicality, but once you put your foot down with 220kw through the DSG, you are quickly distracted from how much fuel it uses (and even then, it's honestly not terrible, it's still much less than its approximate Japanese counterparts like a Liberty GT.B or 3.0 R).

I avg around 10-11L/100km with a B7 V6. I drive it quite enthusiastically

Consumption depends on your journey. When i drive i get average 11-12L/100km, average 20 sets of lights, 60-80km/hr over 20km/30min one way, x 2 daily. When my wife drives to drop the kids off, she gets 13-16L/100km, 5km short trips, 60km/hr granny driving, cold engine.

I calculate from top up amount and odometer, as i find the dash numbers are always 1-2L/100km less that actual consumption.

It's a 2008 3.2l V6 btw.

Fuel consumption doesn't sound too bad.
The ones I'm looking at are only 180kw so it's only 33kw more than the bwa engine and the v6 is heavier.
What about reliability? I'm happy to change dsg oil etc but I'm trying to work out which one is more likely to have big costs.

Our car did get written off and it took a while for insurance to pay up. We've bought almost the same car as before but this one is a v6 and it's grey/green instead of black. It's got full dealer history and a few more options than the old one. I just hope no one smashes into this one!
