This is also borne out by the 'previous' Passat - the mainstream models were available in Australia from 2006, and the R36 wasn't available until 2008. I've also read similar articles hinting that the R36 replacement will be around two years behind the mainstream models.
I was told that VW dealers had stopped taking R36 orders sometime in mid 2010 (July/August-ish), and that my R36 wagon (October delivery) was part of the second to last shipment of R36es bound for Australia. So, I asked the first dealer what about the current R36 and when would the production of that be stopped and he said that it has already ceased production and there was only one brand spanking new R36 wagon left in Australia that he knows of, an Icelandic Grey with auto rear tail gate. The second dealer advised that there were absolutely no new R36 wagons available at all! Panic!
When is delivery?Interestingly, when I purchased my Candy White R36 wagon two years ago, I was in a quandry as to whether I wanted Candy White or Icelandic Grey, so now I will have had the best of both worlds.
