    Alltrack facts needed?

    Hi Guys,

need some advice. I'm wrestling with the idea of replacing my 2007 V6 Passat sedan with an Alltrack, given the family is growing up and I have a need to do some soft roading next year.

However, I'm finding the jump from 185kw down to 130kw a little too steep. Plus, a new V6 Passat is also an option, and at 220kw, what an option.

Can anyone tell me if there are engine upgrades that can be done to the 130kw Alltrack engine and what that will take it to?

Also, the Alltrack has a ground clearance of 165mm. Does anyone know what a standard current model V6 is?. I can't find it in any of the VW literature.

    Thanks very much.

An Alltrack supposedly has 30mm more clearance than a standard Passat. If that helps.

After going across a very badly angled driveway in mine and starting a dashboard rattle and the body creaking like an old man I wouldnt take one too far off the black stuff.. Thats just me others seem to.

Not considering a Tiguan? 155Kw, stage 1 tunable to ~190Kw...

I guess a Passat or Alltrack would be more 'family' oriented, given the boot space in the Tiggy...

I had a B7 V6 and my inlaws live on a farm (on a road that gets graded once a year.).. I decided to take the Passat down on one trip as the grading had occured the week before.... and it wasn't flash... I was touching down a fair bit... The awd and trac system was awsome on the gravel, but couldnt give it any welly at all due to the clearance. It felt great on comfort but used the travel and touched down, on sport it didn't touch down much, but it was uncomfortably harsh.

So how much soft roading would you "need" to do? the passat got through slowly where I would normally blat the SUV through ... The alltrack would suit that bit of the world better, shame they dont do a V6 one!

As for the kw drop, make sure you look at the torque figures too. I was amazed moving to my first diesel that, even with a drop from 140kw to 103kw, the driveability improved because there was more torque from lower down.

Clearance - my Outback was 200mm, and I don't remember bottoming out. My Scout is 180mm, and I've only touched when driving over mounded gravel from road grading. Still planning for an Alltrack as next car, and 165mm seems fine - my brother in law takes his V6 AWD on made gravel AFAIK, and is OK with that.
