Airbag Warning light after battery change

I had a battery die on me all of a sudden after 4 years use. Had to call RAC to replace as needed car that day for long trip. They came out but soon as I tried to drive car after change of battery Airbag warning light comes on and won't go off. RAC claims not there issue.

VW want to charge a $150 for diagnostic.

I've told RAC this is a common issue with VW and modern cars when changing the battery and they should cover (fix).

Anyone else had a similar issue or confirm this issue for me as need to take up with Consumer Affairs if RAC won't come to party.

    Thank you

Just find someone local with VCDS to clear it. There's list I started on the forum. I'd have thought the RAC man would have had a scan tool to do that kind of job with.??

He had a hand held one but that didn't clear the fault and said I'd probably need to go to someone with a full dianostic computer setup , it's a yellow light if that makes any difference, thanks

What model passat did it go into, and what type of battery did RAC install?

I've heard the B7 Passat's are like BMW's that you have you use diagnostic software to register a new battery as the charge rate varies on the age of the battery and if you don't register the battery it can essentially overcharge the new battery shortening its life (apparently as the battery ages the dme charges the battery at different rates to prolong the life of the battery)

The RAC may be able to direct you to one of their preferred repairers, to have the light cleared.

Good end to story (although my time lost and anguish) took it to an RAC service center 10 minutes later code cleared. One to remember if you have a battery change as their Memory Minder didn't stop this from occurring- Cheers
