    About to order questions

    Hi again

About to order the R36 on Monday and have a few Q's I hope can be answered here

    • Do i need to leave a deposit
    • Is it a binding contract or can I add get out clauses
    • Are they required to give me a reliable delivery date
    • Will it be a MY10 car
    • Should they know if there are any changes to the MY09

I want to take advantage of the tax rebate (which I believe requires delivery by Dec 31st 2009) and I am concerned that it may blow out in the delivery by some of the reports posted here. The guy I spoke to in Sth Yarra said 12 weeks but thats seems in contrast to what I have read here

All advice welcomed .... and any other things I should be aware of ?

    Cheers

    Awesome, you'll love it

    1) I was required to leave a $2000 deposit.

    2) Make sure a "pending satisfactory test drive" clause is included. That gives you a bit of room to move if anything isn't quite right.

    3) They can't provide a very accurate date, I've ordered two VW's and have been given a best-and-worst-guess range either time. Try to get something in writing that says if the car isn't here by whenever, you can get out at no penalty with your deposit refunded.

    4) If it has to be built, yes. It will take some time for it to be built and shipped here. If they can source one locally or on the way... maybe. I'm not sure.

    5) They should... but who knows if they actually will!

Make sure they don't forget any options - I'm missing a reversing camera, and then there's the recent Dynaudio episode here...

    • Do i need to leave a deposit - usually yes.
    • Is it a binding contract or can I add get out clauses - pass..
    • Are they required to give me a reliable delivery date - they'll give you an approximate. Pester them in the weeks after that for the VIN number, and get them to double check with their online VW system that the ordered vehicle has any options that you have ordered.
    • Will it be a MY10 car - should be if it's being built in August.
    • Should they know if there are any changes to the MY09 - LOL... don't hold your breath on that one.

Mine took 14 weeks from order to collect. What options are you thinking of getting?

More than likely. The last 2 new cars I've bought have needed it, one being $500 and the other $1000.

Depends on your negotiating skills. Put it on the table and tell them what conditions you require to be met for the sale to proceed. These might include confirmation of VIN, anticipated build/shipping/delivery dates, condition on delivery (such as fuel and ordered vs delivered status), what sort of changes to the delivery are acceptable (either early or late).

There are a few factors that are out of their control, such as customs clearance and compliance, but ultimately even down to weather conditions on the sea when the ship comes through. Again, I'd suggest this is up to your negotiating skills.

Probably depends on whether it's ex-stock or factory-built to order.

They should. Having said that, a lot of car dealers I've dealt with haven't understood the difference between petrol and diesel.

I was quoted 12 weeks for delivery of a Golf in London from September 2007. It finally showed up in March 2008, after about 24 weeks, and it's a day's drive from Germany to the UK. With my Passat, I viewed it on a Saturday, and collected it 10 days later after lease paperwork had been approved.

    Good luck with it all.
