    6th Month health check

What do VW during the 6 month Health check.
Just booked mine in for $99.

I might also get them to check the DPF and DSG.

    Thanks

There is no such thing as a six months check. The logbook states 12mths or 15,000kms which ever is sooner. If your car is subject to severe driving conditions eg: constant very short runs or heavy towing then an oil and filter change is required not just a check.

Personally I think you maybe getting gouged.

How many kms has the car done and what type of driving condition is it subjected to??

Has you Passat been subject to severe driving conditions as per the handbook?

If not and considering your mileage already travelled, I would wait until 15,000 kms. This is what is recommended by VW Aust and all you need to maintain your warranty. Manufacturers are very conservative with their servicing requirements. Elsewhere esp in the UK you can opt to have your servicing determined by the onboard service computer and in ideal conditions, freeway cruising at a steady light throttle, you can go up to 25,000 kms between servicing.

As I posted earlier, I think your dealer is trying to generate more income.

I get a health check at the doctors for free LOL

The Passat will tell you in the MFD when a check is due except as in my case where it has only done 8000k in 12 months.

No one sent me an email like that.

Just a way of them to make money I would say.

Wont be much time spent as my dealer's labour rate is $146 per hour.

The 'health check' is a commonly used term by VW dealers for the first courtesy service which is meant to happen before 7500kms or 6 months. The term courtesy is a falsehood however as the first service is $99 as I experienced & cru mentioned.

Whether it is a gouge or not it is part of the service schedule of your new VW, at least here in NSW & it is mentioned in VWA literature from memory.

cru, it is a general check over of the car & a great time to highlight to the dealer any issues you may have that require a fix.

Very very strange as when I bought my two I asked about a 1500k service and was told Mr xxx, Volkswagens dont get a service till 15000k so we hope to see you then
However my Passat which has adaptive cruise was requested to have a wheel alignment at about 2000k which was free but I think I paid for it in the rather exorbitant stealer delivery fee.
It did however cost them $340 as their machine wasnt working and they sent it to another dealer who charged that to do it.
Has to have all the parking sensors set up again amongst other things apparently.

After my last service (15,000km) they stuck the usual sticker on the front windscreen which shows next service due 12 months / 30,000km, but also another smaller sticker saying next health checkup due in 6 months time from the date of the service.

They probably just check your oil level, tyre pressures, check for any error codes, top up your window washer fluid etc... small stuff. Just another tactic for the dealership to make more money. That said, some people don't bother to do that stuff themselves so it may be of some value to particular clients.

I think since I do have some concerns with like the DPF and DSG
I might as well get them to look at it on the
6th month health check and also I have adaptive cruise but
Was never asked to get wheel alignment done at 2000km
