There is an updated bulletin on timing belt changes . It affects the TDI range more but I think there may be a change from 120k km to 90k km for 1.8t engines

Hey guys, i know this is a bit late but i have a question.

How much does it cost for a timing belt to be changed? I am looking at a few MKIV Golf GTI's with around 100k KM's on them and just want to know how much i'll be forking out.

    Cheers,

Rule of thumb for belts is 90,000km or 4 years and also change tensioners, rollers water pumps and dampeners if fitted.Around $660 for 4cyl and $800 for 6cyl.Still a whole lot cheaper than pulling heads!

I'm sitting at around 77k atm
Will probably change it at 80k

is 80k a big cleanup/service or something for B5 passats?

wow i feel bad for my car now

    Guys,

This is really bad, i feel so horrible.

My passat has 158,000 on the clock (roughly) and the timing belt has never been changed. I just checked the service history.

Take it up to Dereck (Northern Beaches) or Seb (Western Suburbs) and get them to have a look.
