    60,000km Service on MY09 TDi Wagon

    Hey Guys,

    Wondering what experiences you have had with a 60k service.

    I rang my dealer to book in the 60k service and was quoted $1395.00 !

    I rang another dealer a little bit further away and got quoted $1150.....

    Glad I was sitting down when I found this out..

    Apparently a major service on DSG... oil change and filter.

    Does anyone know what else they do to warrant this high cost?

    dsg is the biggest cost, as discussed in other threads. But you'll also get, fuel filter, brake bleed, oil filter, pollen filter. parts alone will total somewhere up around the 600 mark.

    Its so unfortunate that many vw buyers dont know about the major servicing costs till after they purchase.

    When i was at the dealer, I literally asked more than 5 times, before they started answering my question regarding servicing cost!!

    Each time i asked, the salesman says "hmm give me one sec, i'll ask when my boss is free". then diverts my attention and pretends i never asked the question.

    Eventually when i got through to the boss himself, the truth came out - $3000 over the first 3 years and $2000 over the next 3 years for a DSG GTI (serviced at the dealership. obviously he wasn't going to mention its cheaper elsewhere)

    Moral of the story, there's more to the cost of a car than the initial purchase. And VW are expensive to service!

    Don't worry,

    i had the same issue when I was purchasing the Car. I did ask the Dealer for the service costs up to 100,000km and he was rather evasive to say the least. I had to ask several times before he handed over the info. I knew the 60k was going to be expensive, I was quoted in Jan2009 somthing around the $800 mark. guess thats inflation for you.

    What a rip-off. My 60k service on our 07 TDI wagon cost less than $500. An independent VW specialist that has all the gizmos and knows VAG products like the back of his hand. Do youself a favour.

    So,

    I went to get a trade in price for my Passat to upgrade to the new model last week. The Dealer told me that the trade in value of my Passat had "Taken a Tumble" since the new model had come out. Was told around the 22K mark because the 60,000km service had not yet been done. He said the Cam Belt would need to be replaced at the 60K service so it made the car worth less. I looked at the Service schedule in my owners manual and the Cam Belt is not due to be replaced until the 120K service! ????

    Q1: Has anyone had to replace the Cam belt at 60K?125KW TDi ( Car less than 3 Years old)

    Q2: The more important question is when I take my car for the 60K service later in the Month, what happens if they say the cam belt need replacing? If the Schedule states 120,000km, does this constitute a Warranty claim under normal operating conditions ???

    Opinions please......

    I think there some major rip offs happening at some dealers..... sugest people do a lot more homework, refer to the actual service schedule requirements in the owners manual, and then find a good VW specialist mechanic.

    While the time frame for Diesel timing belts has been revised somewhat recently I'm positive that the interval was extended. It's certainly not 60k. I'd recommend calling the VW cry line and asking them. This is the number for customer care: 1800 607 822
    Bear in mind that the service schedule in the owner's manual is often different to the service schedule given to the dealers by VWA. The new Polo is a perfect example. The VW passenger car service schedule says the air filter is due every 45k while the owner's manual says every 60k.

    Oh, whoever said that the brake fluid is due at 60k isn't correct either. Brake fluid replacement is due every 2 years and not by mileage.

    To finish the story, the only things that have gone wrong in the life of the car have been a dodgy park brake switch and a dodgy regulator. Both replaced by the dealer under warranty. Only went to the dealer for my first service and these warranty repairs as was not prepared to be fleeced.
