45,000km service report on TDI wagon.

Done at Essendon VW Melb on 2.0TDI wagon 103kw (PD)

    Issues reported:

Whirring noise from rear left - rear tyre is worn, swapped spare on as a test and noise disappeared (need new tyres now bum)

DSG stalling at random periods when cold and hot, plus going into neutral occasionally. - did full diagnostic no fault codes, reset DSG, conferred with head office and raised idle rpm by a huge 30rpm!!. Have logged and advised to monitor if any further issues, bring back if required.

Oil usage - added approx 750ml in last 15,000km - same old line that they can use up to 1 litre per 1,000km - that makes 15 litres b/w services in my book, monitor over the next 1,000kms if any more oil required then bring in again - living up to my user name!!!

Other - new wiper blades front and rear required - quoted at $75!!! Where can I buy myself??

Full check no other issues identified as warranty expires next week.

Need new tyres in next 3 / 4 months have done 35,000kms might try the Michelin PS3's

Cost - $424.50. been an expensive period with extended warranty, rego, insurance and now service!!

    Essendon Service

    OilBurna,

Looks like you've had a'painful' period on the wallet .

Good choice on the extended warranty I think - I'm in two minds whether to extend - I still have a couple of years to run on the factory warranty so might defer the decision for a year and see how the forum feedback goes (I'm a VW Newbie).

Quick question - how have you found the service at Essendon? I could do with some guidance on who are the 'better' operators when in come to servicing in Melbourne. I'm on the road a lot so I can go pretty much anywhere.

    Cheers.

I had my R36 serviced yesterday... Took the recommendations of a few guys from this forum for Burwin VW - even though I live in Southbank! Worth travelling for their level of service.

    From my original thread:

After ringing around and a LOT of laughing (on my part) at the stupid prices dealers charge for the 15,000km service, I ended up taking the R36 to Burwin Volkswagen today. I had arranged it a few weeks ago but was out of town because of a death in the family. I contacted them the day before it was due to go in and they were more than happy to re-schedule.

Anyway, on top of the 15,000km service I needed to have the recall software update for the DGS temp sensor possible issue (where the computer could have wrongfully thought the DSG temp was too high) done as well as a check of the inside of the driver's door for an elusive rattle.

I arranged to get there and be first so I could wait around and then drive back. Morning lost but to work by lunch time. The service guys are fantastic. So friendly and go through the whole process with you, discuss anything you want and then pointed me to their lounge, with flat screen TV, magazines, newpapers and then got me a coffee. A really NICE coffee actually. Everything went smooth, well mostly. Service done, rattle fixed (window mount rubbers weren't installed correctly) but they had an issue doing the software update for the recall. Had to get another computer from another dealer as the update process froze. Anyhow, another coffee, some more relaxing and then offered a car to go for a drive (fuel included) if I wanted. Went to Knox City for lunch, caught a movie, saw a smash and watch emergency services clean it up then headed back to Burwin. Phone call on the way letting me know the car was ready.

They went through the entire bill, service checklist and notes (that I get to keep) and charged me just $330.00. I was extremely impressed. Came in $10 cheaper than I was quoted over the phone and over $100 cheaper than other Melbourne dealers. Worth the drive from Southbank for sure! HIGHLY recommend Burwin to ANYONE within an hour or so drive of them. Not surprising they've been VW dealer of the year for 2008 and 2009!

A big public thank you to them all.

Oh and as for the Jetta diesel, PATHETIC!!! But it was a loan car so I'm not complaining. How they sell any of them though, I'll never know.

Appreciate the advice - thanks. You know what it's like - you don't even mind paying an extra dollar or two if you know you're going to get the service. I know the Commercial guy there also so I'll book it through him.
