2009 Passat TDi - Coil light flashing til stop / Engine light on perm after stall

    Hi,

Twice now, while doing a ~1 hour drive, the coil light has started flashing and a message saying something along the lines of "see your mechanic immediately" pops up. Once the car has stopped the message and light goes away. The car does not change when this light is displayed. No shuddering, slow down etc.

A second issue occurred a couple weeks back where it was raining heavily and as I braked in traffic, the car stalled. I was unable to immediately start the car, but that was probably because I either didn't have my foot on the brake, or perhaps it wasn't in park. But once I made sure I was doing all that, it seemed to start fine. However, after this incident, the orange engine light has been on permanently.

The car has done 115k Km's and is in excellent shape. Only issue is it slightly shudders when coming to a halt. As if the transmission is fighting with the brake.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced these issues, or has an idea of what might be happening to the car? Can I safely ignore, or should I go straight to the mechanic?

    Thanks!
    Paul

Go straight to the mechanic. Ignoring the fault just because the car drives normally could be costly. Of course others will come and tell you what it could be, but without connecting it to diagnostics, it's just a guessing and you don't want that.

Thanks Transporter. I'm trying to find someone with a VAG-COM to read the error codes .. no luck so far. I've not been able to get the car in to a mechanic this week because of the Easter break.
