    2006 B6 V6 3.2L Passat 4-motion timing chain issue please help

    Hello

I own a 2006 B6 3.2L 4 motion Passat and it is making a lot of noise coming from the engine bay. The sound is a rattle type sound like pebbles in a bucket and is also making another noise (constant sound, loudest sound heard in video) that sounds like the chain is hitting against something. Sometimes I also here a ticking sound in the car. I have only recently noticed this and a few times I have heard it around 10 metres away. The car is a bit more shaky when driving and at times it judders when it is stopped.

I have uploaded two youtube videos showing the noise:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnS7...ature=youtu.be
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn9xihM2YHw

The noise gets noisier the longer I drive the car I think. Please have a look at the video and let me know what you think? I am pretty sure I didn't notice this much noise or anywhere near this much noise before. It sounds like a tractor or some kind of very noisy diesel engine.

    Thanks

Because it is a 2006 model, the links below may help, i believe there was a problem with the bolt holding the sprocket that connected the crankshaft timing chain to the overhead cam chain working loose, it can cause major problems if it brakes, sorry for the bad news, but better have it checked out. Not sure if you can still have it fixed as good will from VW's, has I believe it to be a common problem on the 2006 Passats. Peter.

Yep, get it looked at as soon as possible.

Also, does it go away once the car has been running for a bit?

Did you manage to take a look at the videos I posted on youtube? Does the sound coming from the engine sound normal or not normal?

    Thanks again

It doesn't go away, it gets worse if I drive the car for longer I think. But definitely it doesn't go away. I drove for 1 hour this morning, 1 hour this afternoon back home and the noise is still there. After the 1 hour of driving to work, it was a little bit noisier to the point I can hear it 5-10 metres away. How likely is it the timing chain?

Is this problem more likely to occur in lower or higher mileage?

Seems to happen to a certain age range, up til MY10, from memory when they changed the chain tensioner design.

Does my problem in the video I provided relate to a exhaust leak?
