First Australian review I've seen mentioning the upgraded 130kW/380Nm engine: Volkswagen Passat Alltrack car review - The West Australian. Volkswagen.com.au and all dealer sites I've seen are still showing 125kW/350Nm though.

Can confirm we are getting the 130tdi in Australia soon.

Whilst insuring my superseded new 125tdi that will be ready for pickup thursday, all major insurance companies had it listed as MY13.5 130tdi highline.

Must admit that takes the shine off picking my new car up knowing it is now the older version

Bummer, do you know when yours went into production? It would have had to been before January, as that's when they upgrade happened.

It still makes you wonder: the bump is almost certainly a mere chip/firmware upgrade, however as the original DSG was only rated to 350NM, is there now actually a new model of DSG or is it the very same simply found to be certifiable up to the new 380NM?

In that case you may yet get the benefit from as little as a software upgrade!

I've read that there's a reprogram for the dsg boxes that removes the limiter so you can make use of the 400Nm + some tunes offer.

What would be of concern to me is that the Passat DSG is rated for 350NM. Or was, at least. So, putting 400NM on it, might not be wise. Unless that is simply a conservative number which VW has now increased to at least 380NM without any further changes. It's conceivable that Jan'13 models onward actually receive a new DSG transmission built for the higher torque, I wouldn't know.

The DSG gearbox is capable of handling much more than 350nm, 380nm or even 400nm. I would guess that it is the same box.

It's a rating just like take-off weight on a new model aircraft, thrust rating of a new type gas turbine, ETOPS time, bridge load ratings, maximum RPM of a diesel, etc.

Once the device has passed a given set of engineering parameters, the manufacturer may choose to upgrade (or downgrade) the rating. They may even upgrade one specification while downgrading another eg: Maximum RPM on a 16 cylinder Cummins might be bumped 1500rpm but the total time at that speed may be limited to 5 minutes with a minimum low rpm time of 30 minutes between cycles. There may also be some minor engineering changes associated with the change of rating but not a redesign or new model.

Trawling with google, it's a matter of "officially" vs. not. VW approved them for 350NM. That doesn't mean chip tuners and drivers weren't successfully going higher. The highest I found was 660NM! Note that I too think it's the same one, I was simply listing the possibilities, no matter how unlikely. Professional hazard.
