Except, of course, in aviation they have WAAAAAY higher tolerances and margins for error.

If by higher tolerances you mean that things are over-engineered, this is not the case. If everything was over-engineered & "a bit stronger than it needs to be" then a 747 or A380 would never get off the ground & they'd need a lot less preventative maintenance (crack detection, etc). OTOH, if you mean closer tolerances, then yes, they probably do.

They design something but they aren't quite sure just how much stress it can take in a real life situation, so they rate it conservitavly & put it into service & then use an in-service monitoring & auditing process to assess wear & failure & gradually uprate the service parameters.

Anyone know what dsg box is used in the alltrack? Is it the same one as the Touareg? (since it uses the same AWD system I thought this might be the case)

    6-speed DSG in Alltrack.
Touareg has an 8 speed ZF made transmission.

Was it built Jan 2013 or later? That's when they updated the engine, IIRC (or was that only the 4Motions and DSGs that were updated in January while the 2wheelers and/or manuals were done before?)

Seems to be a lotto at the moment PHA and mine came on same boat, both built Dec 12 yet his is the 125kw and mine is 130kw motor.

Anyone buying current stock would be wise to push for greater discounts if it's the 125kw model now that the 130kw models are now in the country (albeit randomly)

Going back into the thread history on the German forums, which linked to the VW configurators there, apparently the 130 update was first applied to manual 2WD, then the DSG 2WD and finally the DSG 4WD (dunno about manual 4WD as I didn't look). The changes were phased in between November '12 and January '13.

Have not found anything regarding when and where the upgrade was applied along split between wagons and sedans and/or production location, i.e. Emden and Mosel. Note, all wagons are made in Emden, however sedans are split between the two plants.

So, it does seem a bit of a crapshoot.

On the additional plus side to the extra power and torque, we had to get our insurance ammended tonight as it was insured as a MY13 125tdi (as dealer originally quoted us). After changing the details to a MY13.5 (everything else identical obviously) our premium dropped by nearly 10%. We were not expecting that, we were expecting it to jump so we were pleasantly surprised.
