Hi all,
I have a 2008 Passat with 125KW TDI engine. Car starts beautifully when cold and drives perfectly.
On short trips when you stop for 10 mins or so it is very hard to restart. Sometimes a couple of minutes of short burst cranking. I've found putting accelerator pedal to the floor helps.
To me it seems fuel related.Ive read some threads re cranking rpm and the car cranks at the same speed hot or cold and for mine it is over the required 250rpm mark (I could be wrong but don't want to buy a battery if that is not the cause). I can hear a buzzing from the engine bay which I'm assuming is a fuel pump or lift pump.
I replaced the timing belt, water pump and all filters (including fuel) a few thousand kms ago so I'm confident it isn't a timing issue.
Does anyone have any advice? I have a code reader but but doesn't seem to be throwing any codes. I might need to check when the problem is actually occurring.
Thanks in advance
I had this problem a few years back - very I embarrassing cranking a (relatively) new car like that!
Turned out to be a faulty crank angle sensor. Bout $200 to replace at the dealer if I'm not mistaken.
Hope you find a solution!
