I guess no one knows?
Hey guys,
Has anyone got any technical information on the differences between these 2 cars? More specifically even, the differences between the engines? Did they simply turn the boost up a few PSI?
Cheers,
Brett.

5kw would be ECU map changes only

The engine serial numbers start with different prefixes between the 125 and 130kw models, whether that means it is ecu or some minor internal differences I could not tell you, but I am inclined to agree with Brad and think it would only be ecu remapping. Also all the after market tuners i have read about are still quoting the same final output figures regardless of which engine is remapped by them which also suggests it is just an ecu remap.

They did the same thing with the Tiguan when they did the face lift. Went from 125/147kW to 132/155kW in the petrol engine. The engine was the same, just a remap and reason for the customer to want to upgrade... but if you tune it you'll just end up at the same place.

Cheers for the replies guys. I was thinking along the same veins myself...
toto: Seems you now own a 130TDi Passat. Can you give me some impressions on how it goes for the daily commute? I'm particularly interested in ride quality (and what you're comparing it to in that regard), speed (as in, enough go to keep some quicker cars honest), and fuel economy (real world highway figures particularly).
Cheers!
Yep. It's a bit like Holden & Ford adding a few extra kw to their output every time they tart up a vehicle.

Previous car was a 06 Honda Accord Euro Luxury and Holden Craptiva V6. It definitely has no weakness vs the Craptiva. In comparison to the Euro I feel the Passat is overall a better vehicle, maybe only losing out very slightly in ride comfort. I find the Passat a little firmer for long trips. I would expect a direct comparison between yr models in the euro and passat to be closer, but with all the extras on the passat it wins hands down.
Fuel economy with a mix of driving is averaging 7l. In all fairness my drive to works is only 8km so doesn't do it any favours. Took it too Qld recently and got 1200km and 1300km out of each tank (70lt). It also only has 6000k's currently so still running in.
As for get up and go, it has plenty. Not overly quick off the line in first, but once in second gear or higher the torque has it pull like a much bigger engine. Give it a squirt overtaking or merging onto a freeway without paying attention and you will find yourself doing 140+ very quickly. Freeway cruising is effortless regardless of the terrain. Makes the V6 in our Craptiva look like a 1.3l Honda Jazz motor.
If your considering buying would highly recommend. Other than being a little firm on long trips, I have little I would fault with the car to date.
