09 Passat Model Changes / Upgrades

I ordered a 125tdi passat wagon and its not due to arrive until June this year. I am trying to find out what changes have been made to the 09 model as I have only been able to see 08 models at the local dealership. I have been told that it is mainly styling changes as opposed to anything major.

Does anyone know what changes have been made?

For instance - I have seen photos with a white MFD display as opposed to red. Is this in the R36 model only?

THE 09 HAS COLOR RADIO SCREEN RCD510 , the 08 had a mono screen. the 09 also has a common rail diesel as compared to pump deuse (individual pumps per cylinder) - they quote same power, torque and efficiency for both motors.

The CR diesel is meant to be quieter and i believe ours is quieter than the 08 demo we drove. very quiet indeed.

i don't know of any other updates but sure there are some.

the wait is frustrating , but ultimately well worth it as IMO the next best option is the a4 wagon which will cost you more.- about 20k like for like.

we test drove the audi a4 avant - nice car but absolutely everything is an option that costs more $$$. Your right – to option it up to match the passat would be around $20k just for the 4 ring logo!! The boot also did not pass the pram test - the A4 boot is tiny compared to that of the passat.

That is part of the reason that the comparos of Audi V VW in the UK are partly irrelevant.

I saw and Audi A4 3.0L D avante v R36 review, and they gave it to the audi based on a number of factors, one if which was the fact the Audi was cheaper

Over here the a4 would have been at least $20k dearer, so surely that would change their opinions?

Plus the fact the UK love their diesels, and Oz is only just starting to embrace them.
Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

its a nice but very expensive option to get the a4 with a 3.0 diesel - it would be fantastic.

ive driven the bmw530d and its just brilliant.

i also drove the peugot 408 v6 hdi - quite good but a heavier car. also would have been about 14k more like for like.

    Hi all,

As this is my first post, I would like to say that this is a great site with a lot of useful information.

I ordered my 125tdi sedan in mid Jan in Icelandic Grey (although it is usually reserved for the R36, if you ask VW, they are happy to do it), with RNS510, sunroof, fogs and leather package. I have also been quoted early June for delivery (am counting the days).

What I was told by the dealer is that the changes to the MY09 Passat are: it will share the same instrumentation cluster with the Passat CC (including the larger white MFD), the sunroof dial is different, the standard metal dash inserts are slightly darker and as also mentioned previously the engine is now a CRD.

Welcome to the group, and enjoy the ride. Good things come to those who wait...

I was keen on getting a 407 wagon, and the dealer offered me an ex-demo with the 2.7l diesel for the same price as a 2.0l.. but then I had a look at the Passat and between my wife and I we decided it was a better car. Having done about 14,000km in mine since delivery, I reckon the 2.0TDI is well and truly up to the task.

i reckon the peugot was well built and as good - even slightly classier interior. in the final analysis the wife ( its her car) didnt like the pug.

interestingly the vw sales rep said he was ex peugot and reckons they have heaps of Quality issues. took it with a grain of salt of course.... but did end up with the vw. no way were they gonna match the 125tdi price wise for the pug tho. and happy with the decision.

went to cranbourne got a loan of it today !

My brother wound up getting a 307 wagon on a runout deal, which I'd initially thought about getting, then wound up looking at the 308 and 407 as well. I reckon the VW interior finish is a lot better than the Pug, my bro pointed out a few areas where the plastic trim was left sharp enough to break skin, layout was a little, um, quirky, etc.

My wife preferred the seats and layout in the Passat, particularly since we were already familiar with them after having 2 Golfs in London. I'd also heard some quality problems occurred with the Pugs, although having said that I've had my Passat back for more warranty work than my brother has had issues with the 307.

The Passat was also the first car we looked at where we jumped into one on the showroom floor and just sat in there happily playing with the knobs and buttons, most other cars had been a quick in and out.

The Passat wound up being about $4000 cheaper than the 407, although admittedly the 407 had sat-nav (RNS-510 rats on it though - bigger screen and more intuitive to use), but then it was a 5-speed auto compared to 6-speed DSG, etc. Swings and roundabouts, I guess..

Wouldn't mind some of the updates in the 2009 model, but I can live without them for another couple of years and see what's around in 2011 or 2012..
