So is it worth the risk to purchase one of these cars or should I look at other cars of other brands?

that depends on what interests you Twiggy - and how much you want to spend. Personally, you can't go past a Honda for reliability. I've had them in the extended family for over 20 years and everyone has been excellent (except for the Integra that had electrical problems and would refuse to restart when it was hot, then the first Accord that kept refusing to start when it was cold, then the later Accord that had 2 main ECU's, an auto ECU, coil packs, new transmission - all before it had travelled more than 90k's, then auto Civic that also destroyed it’s transmission! But how about a Hyundai or Kia? No problems? How about blown transmission, throttle bodies, interior trim falling apart and bad paint jobs. But the 2011 models are now terrrific - according to the ever reliable, highly knowledgeable and most importantly 'independent' Aussie journo's - if I had a dollar for every Hyundai or Kia that Will Hagen has recommended, I'd have more money than him I’m sure).
I'd be driving them all, that would tell me what I wanted. But whatever brand you buy, if it goes pear shaped, you'll regret it and wished you had have listened to everyone on all the forums. If goes well, you'll be wondering what all fuss was about (which is most people's experience across all the brands- except for those early dreadful korean models). Good luck![]()

What a great post clip.bloody awsome.
Most of the vw's I have been looking at are either passat's or jetta's with the diesel engine
The only other car that comes to mind is the mondeo diesel all are around the $20k with most having 100k km on them
This has been the hardest choice of car ever always had ford falcons before this but want to buck the trend of the petrol motors ( I must be showing my age or a mid life crises)

Plenty of Mondeo diesels at work, nice car but not up to VW level of finish and quality.
Yes my injectors died (replaced under warranty) as did the elect park brake, but still the best and smartest car I've driven. And really, the 125TDI is sooooo drivable with the oodles of torque. Best for me is the miles per tank, can do 800-1000km which means most country trips don't require a fuel stop unlike petrol equivalents.
Will still heartily recommend the car/brand and fully intend to upgrade to the B7 in 2012-13.
