06 B6 Passat wagon - Climate control is too hot!

    Hi all,

This is my first post so please be gentle

I have an issue with my Climatronic climate control. It won't regulate the temperature. Weather you have it set on 16 or 30 degrees, it'll just pump out heat (must be maximum heat).
The only time it does not pump out full heat is when you have the dial set to "LO". When it's set to "LO" the aircon kicks in and the heater is off.

    Questions:
Could it be the cabin temp sensor? If so, where can i find it?
Could it be the control unit? I've read posts saying it could be one of the motors that control the air flaps.
Will a Volkswagen dealer print out the error messages from a VAG-COM?
Does anyone in Melbourne have a VAG-COM?

Was it working alright before. Probably a cabin sensor problem, although take my advice with a grain of salt and a small one at that.

I just bought the car 3 days ago so i have no idea how long it hasn't worked for.
    I like your thinking though.
Is there a thread on where to find the cabin temp sensor in a B6 wagon? I can't seem to find anything written about it.

Also, can you get the error codes off the climatronic without a vagcom? I see others can the error codes off the older version of climatronic but i can't find anything on the one in my car.

You can read some of the temperature sensor readings by going into the secret menu

see here: VWVortex.com - Secret Menu?

It might give you a clue to which one is wrong..

Private sale or dealer used? If dealer used, it's most likely covered under the statutory warranty.

Fantastic. I was trying to find out how to get to the secret menu last night.
I'll give it a go tonight and see what i come up with.

I've ordered a vagcom so i'm hoping that'll shed some light with error codes as well.

    Update:

ok vagcom shows that the internal temperature is reading -30C when it's 25C outside. I guess that would be my problem.
It took me a while to find the internal cabin temp sensor. It's part of the Climatronic control unit. After pulling it apart and cleaning/spraying every part of it with electrical cleaning solvent and reinstalling it. Nothing changed. Cabin temp was still reading -30.
I hovered a lighter over it and got it to 25C and everything worked perfectly.
I've ordered a new one so hopefully that'll fix the problem.

Funny how the secret menu doesn't give you a reading from the cabin temp sensor.

This is where the cabin temp sensor is.
