    Problems with MY08 Passat V6

Hey guys, I've been lurking a bit so far, but I've always had a thing for VW/Audi cars

My dad took delivery of his brand new V6 Passat Sedan last Decemeber but its been having massive issues.

There is a fault that keeps coming up - AFS system inoperative.

The dealer hasn't done much so far, basically resetting the ECU and checking for fault codes but it keeps doing it.

He's been putting up with it for some time, all the warning lights come up and you lose some of the steering assist, I assume all the safety systems stop working as the lights are flashing on the dash.

However, last Thursday it got really bad! The car went into limp mode and the engine lost most of its power. He was struggling to drive at freeway speeds.

Normally pulling over and waiting for the faults to clear has worked, but in this case it wasn't until hours later that the car came good.

Has anyone heard of this kind of thing before? I'm guessing its a dud ECU or something.

Because the dealers haven't been much help so far, does anyone have a contact for VW head office?

PM me the details if you do so I can get my Dad onto someone high-up to get this sorted.

If he hasn't been talking to the service supervisor, do so. If he has, escalate to the dealer principal (the person who owns the dealership) and let them know how unhappy you are and how dangerous it is to suddenly lose power (limp mode).

Be polite but persistent, and ask them what they are going to do that will actually fix the problem.

If you haven't already done so, start keeping a log of faults, dates, action taken and the names of the people you have dealt with (that last one often gets their attention ). That way you have something to take to VWA if needed.
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

Cheers mate, yes he has been logging the problems, with photos of the dash and has been persistent with them. Unfortunately they have been reluctant to replace anything expensive.

The car was playing up quite bad on the weekend and was towed to the nearest VW dealer. We'll see what happens after this.
