$400 long haul passat

About oct last year me and a few mates found ourselves in Adelaide,3guys and a **** load of parts drving back to sydney in a 1300 bug....try again...we stayed in Harndorf ,decided we needed to buy a kombi to bring all the gear back ..couldn't find one cheap enough...noticed a 76 passat wagon parked at the back [they all end up there]of a nissan dealership. jumped out of the bug ..all big lads and walked over to the passat...what a gem all original with 340k's 4sp..had about 5min rego left..so a deal was struck for $400....it turned out to be a one owner..the interior was 9out10 s/s exhaust didn't blow smoke steam seals were good..clutch was RS..with the help of a friend Andrew Edwards we pulled the clutch [original date stamp on clutch plate] and drove back to sydney the next day FULLY loaded..headlights were pointing at possums as they do with a loaded passat..1400k's on the old girl used NO OIL or WATERand returned 600+k's to a tank..the bug took 1liter of oil and used alot more fuel...anyways the old 76 passat was regoed in nsw and runs around the northern beachs......what other $400 car will do that/ cheers steve

Yeah they are an underrated car. Available for next to nothing and can carry heaps.
