Have you attempted to isolate stop/start via VCDs by any chance ?
Thanks

Yes and its impossible as VAG have disabled the ability to do it Only way is to buy a cheater cable from ALIEXPRESS and fit that However getting the console apart to get the switch out is really hard and I gave up Consequently have the cable sitting here $30 posted

I would say it took me less than 5 minutes start to finish

That's easier than how I did it myself, but I got there.
Nothing is fragile, it's supposed to pull apart, it's just thing it with care that's the issue for our cars.

Did it yesterday and all back together but buggared if I can get it to work I bought the cable about 2 years ago and havent got the instructions. Have tried others pinched off AliExpress but cant get it to do what the horrible instructions say. Also had a bit of a hard time getting the cable down into the trim far enough to get switches back in place

Shouldn’t need instructions, only plugs in one way. Once fitted the state of stop/start button remains as is until you press it again, regardless of how many times the car is started.

I can only guess that you may have purchased a faulty one
