    MY21 T Cross VCDS Tweaks

Got my new VCDS cable last month and have been doing a few tweaks to the "Green machine"
The tweaks below should work on all Aus spec models except Adaptive Lane Guidance with Memory retention which I think will require ACC that comes as an option on the Life version and standard on the Style model. Maybe someone who has a Life model without ACC & and access to VCDS or OBD Eleven can confirm this for me.

I am working with Ross Tech support to get Adaptive Traffic Sign Assist (Dynamic Road Sign Display) up and working which is proving to be very elusive as the new A5 Valeo ECU coding is different to the older Bosch unit as fitted to the MY19/20 models, Golf 7s and Tiguans.

Recently OBD Eleven have posted on their T Cross 'tweaks" page that the feature is not possible on VW's fitted with the MIB3 unit. IMO I think the head unit requires a SWaP/FEC code from VW (00071C00?) as the feature is openly advertised on the UK VW website as an "option" on certain T Cross models fitted with navigation.

I also have the coding to enable WiFi option for Wireless AA & Carplay in the MIB3 display on non navigation units as the hardware is there but it also requires an enabling code from the dealer. Some non navigation UK spec units appear to have this code loaded at factory but they also have the WeConnect feature installed which is still not available in Australia. See below for details

I have recently managed to get a Auto scan and save some csv files of adaption settings for some ECUs on a MY22 R Line T Cross fitted with Travel Assist from factory I will post the coding changes required to enable it once i have tested it out on my car. There is no mention of this feature on the VW Australia website for the T Cross yet

Hi, I would like to retrofit from halogen headlights to full led, could you help me with the VCDS coding ? Thank's.

I don't have LED lights but I do have an Autoscan of an Australian Spec R Line that does. I posted this scan on the Ross Tech website You can use that as a guide Please remember this will be a RHD model so the coding may differ to a LHD model

hmm...... retrofitting "full led" headlights on a car that was factory built with "halogen headlights" will be problematic because the wiring loom and the headlight connector won't have sufficient wires/pins!!

I don't have access to the specific T-Cross wiring diagrams but this car shares the same DNA as other MQB platform vehicles like Audi A3/8V and Golf mk7.5 (i.e. they ALL have a 3Q0 chassis), This means that the connector for halogen headlights on these cars will be 10 x pins and the non-halogen headlight connector will be 14 x pin.

So, at the very least, this retrofit project will require a cross-wiring harness (which is a non-OEM piece-of-kit)

Also, "full led" headlights have a very different version of AFS (automatic front-lighting system) than the simple arrangement for halogen headlights. Non-halogen AFS is normally controlled by a specific module that doesn't exist on factory built halogen headlight cars. So - more equipment (and wiring looms) needed.

Finally, as shown on @bambazonke auto-scan, this car has a BCM (i.e. hex09 module) that doesn't have an active long-code string. This means that the normal software-switch code changes that tell the BCM that halogen headlights are no longer installed - will need to be made in the hex09 module's adaptation channel database instead

And finally, finally - it's normal in most countries that cars fitted with increased luminous intensity headlights (like "full led") require a balancing sensor (usually on the rear stub-axle) to stop blinding on-coming drivers. This is normally a legal requirement. I would be extremely surprised if Italy didn't have this requirement!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.

@dv52 Yeah i figured it would be quite a job I looked into retrofitting OEM foglights into my first gen Tiguan and that was quite a mission ended up trading it in for another Tiguan that had them fitted from factory and also included the comfort package. If i was AndryT_ I would opt to do the Osram H7 LED globe upgrade kit.

Personally I am looking at upgrading the T Cross to Travel Assist as per factory spec which involves replacing the steering wheel and indicator stalk, clock spring, and plus coding. I am not sure if I will also need a FEC/SWaP code to enable it. I can source off eBay Germany a steering wheel off a B8 Passat but first need to take the T Cross one off and check the wiring plugs etc to see if they are compatible.

The coding will not be easy judging by the Autoscan I have of the R Line compared to my son's T Cross. Coding BMW's using E Sys software is a breeze compared to VAG products.
You basically added the feature code to the Vehicle Order then code the car ECU's and it would do all the changes for you providing you had all the relevant hardware fitted and wired correctly. Coding of VAG cars in particular new models is a case of trial and error as the mapping info is encrypted or as I understand it, you are simply locked out of the ECU and require online to access it via the servers in Germany

@Bambazonke: hmm........ again, I don't have access to the wiring diagrams for the T-Cross, but I as I understand -Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist together in order to control the accelerator, brake, and steering, all independently of the driver.

If I look @ your auto-scan report, I note that this car has a front facing camera (i.e. a hexA5 module) - so lane keep assist is already fitted. But , I can't see the front facing radar module (i.e. hex13 module which VCDS calls "Auto Dist. Reg (J428 )") in your auto-scan - this means that your car doesn't have ACC.

Retro fitting ACC is SWAP - so yes, FECs. Also, installing the front facing radar module requires calibration. I've read forum posts that claim that calibration can be DIY - but I suggest that because of the safety implications, this is more appropriately done by a dealer using the proper tool (see below):

Bottom line = retrofitting Travel Assist on this car will not be a trivial task - I suspect

Yes you are quite right retrofitting ACC would not be a simple "coding task". However the T Cross that I have, came with the Driver Assistance Package that includes ACC and I do have module 13 fitted (hence my interest in retro fitting Travel Assist), Parking Assistant plus and a few other driver assist features. BTW this package is no longer available on the Life model so if you want ACC you need to purchase the Style model at a considerable extra cost.

pACC is not an option as my research has shown, I will need FEC's plus factory fitted navigation. Quite disappointing as I have enabled this on my X5 and find it extremely useful around school zones and temporary road works. I am dismayed it is also still not available on the Touareg in Australia but Ford have it working here in their Ranger Wildtrack. I wonder if the new Amarok will have it when it is released in later this year
