Once the original 2 piece disks wear out and need to be replaced, you will find a lot of people will freak out at the replacement cost and simply replace them with a basic single piece disk of the same dimensions.

For example, a lot a RS3's and RSQ3's which have 60,000+kms on them and have worn through their original fancy 2 piece wave design disks, are now running on bog stock single piece disks.

So further searching has revealed an OEM part number for these two piece rotors, although there is still some confusion that I found.

OEM 5Q0615301Px2 as shown here Genuine MQB 340x30mm Front Discs Semi 2-Piece Plain (Pair) (5Q0615301Px2) - Vagbremtechnic

I think the plain 2 piece rotors are by Zimmerman or SHW for VW. This link shows the Zimmerman rotor matching the part number to be drilled, while the SHW one further down is plain. Just a moment...

Anyway, I am happy that I have decided to swap to Brembo Ceramic pads to slow down the wear on these pricey rotors

Didn't see this when I posted, but yes, unless you're tracking the thing switching back to cheap single rotors woiuld definitely be the way to go. Brembo makes them and they are a perfect match for the Ceramic pads. I put that combo on my daughter's Tiguan R Line 162TSI and they are performing up to OEM spec if not better and far less dust.

I just put the P85131N Brembo pads in the front and can confirm that the OEM rotors are the SHW two piece plain, as shown here Genuine MQB 340x30mm Front Discs Semi 2-Piece Plain (Pair) (5Q0615301Px2) - Vagbremtechnic

And the difference between the P85131N and the P85144N is colour. The P85131N is a black pad frame with a red plate, and the P85144N is a grey pad frame with a black plate. The friction material is the same. Only a tiny bit of red is visible past the caliper, not something that would cause a fanboi to gasp in horror, haha.

Initial bite is reduced as expected, but still excellent.

Gulp, they're not cheap. DBA 2 piece are about half that. Think I will go 1 piece if and when I need them.

I will have to give my T-ROC some red stripes then! 🙃

Here is a picture of 2 of the pads I bought. The green backed one has a lot more pad material surface area than the other.

^ note that the green pad technically has a larger pad surface area because the edges are not chamfered and no centre line down the middle to greatly reduce the chance of squeeling and to help expel gas, water and dust. So for a street car where you want a quiet pad, the pads in the bottom picture would be the much better option.

Are those PR codes common across all VAG variants, or are the Tiguan specific ?

They are vehicle specific but many vehicles may have the same codes. Your build will have dozens of PR codes, ask your dealer for a printout of your "Vehicle Data".

My printout is 6 pages long of very small print.

Done that already, but my car came with different brakes (I fitted the 340/310 combo), so just curious if the PR codes are common

The codes for my Leon V are Front:1ZA & Rear:1KE.

It looks like the codes for Cupra are different, as the Formentor rotors are Rear:1LD & Front: either 1X0, 1X1, 1KD or 0N4

A few weeks back looking for rotors and pads for my 140 TSi Sport T-ROC I found thanks to Lucas_R 2 options for the front ceramic pads - P58147N (Acoustic Wear) and P85126N (Electronic Wear) ..... these wear indicators were the only difference noticed.

I'd hazard a guess that with the R that would be the difference also.

Can't get onto the brembo site to qualify
