Box itself mate with mechatronics, apparently there is metal all through the DSG oil and they can't reuse the old mechatronics.

I believe KMW is an equivalent transmission code, part numbers are
    02E 300 050 T
    02E 300 050 TX
    02E 300 050 CX

Downer I'd be interested in you bad mechatronics if the replacement box isn't exchange.

Yeah righto, I'll let you know. I wonder whether the Custom Code DSG tune had anything to do with it.. There was always something funny about my box before that though..

You changed the oil on time? I can't see why the tune would cause a failure, just replacing the mechatronics would be risky if there's any metal left in the box. The chances of another failure would be really high.
Any idea what part of the box has failed? Can you tell anything from the metal debris?

The actual box is screwed, and they said the metal in the oil would have went through the mechatronics and wrecked that too.

Yeah oil was changed on time. I don't think they really pulled the gearbox apart to ascertain what exactly went wrong, they just said there's metal powder all through the oil. There was a heap of oil under the engine and gearbox when I had a look so I assume its spat its oil. That coupled with the horrible clanking noise when you drive it and you can pretty safely assume its kaput I guess.

I wonder if they do diff bolts like the manuals? It would be false economy to try and salvage anything out of it. a meticulous clean of every component would be prohibitively expensive.

You might be able to use a different DSG and mech, they need to match. If the gearing in the box and mechatronics programming don't match it'll throw codes. So a GTI box would work if you used the whole thing, in theory.

Really? The shop told me the mechatronics need to be coded to match the engine. You reckon the mechatronics from a GTI could be coded to match? Do you reckon the GTI box is designed to handle the same torque as the TDI ones? I know they are almost identical but I wonder whether there are subtle differences in the hardware, bit of a risky gamble IMO. I might do a bit of research on it though.

I was talking with the guys in the Uk and they said the mechatronics can be flashed to suit any box. but if you used a different box the mech must match the box to run it correctly. I guess it counts road speed and stuff for the shifting?

So GT box with GTI mechatronics = no go. Unless GTI Mechatronics flashed to GT spec.

GTI box with GTI mechatronics = ok. But obviously ratios and changes won't be that good, 6500 redline for example.

I would expect any TDI box/mech combo would get you fixed up. Obviously a GT one would be the easiest to handle. But a 125kw Passat? Or 103 Jetta?
