    Throttle Controllers

Has anyone installed a throttle controller on their Arteon?

The APR Throttle Booster looks interesting, but is more than double the price of other options. What are the "best" devices out there that are available for our cars?

I assume that these devices are fine with ECU and TCU tunes.

Whilst I'm a Passat low-life and not an Arteon afficionado, I can highly recommend the HikeIT X5 and X9. I run mine on S0 (sport setting, lowest 'gain').

I've ran the X5 mdoel on a standard car, JB4 piggyback ECU, and now with a Stage 1 ECU/Stage 2 TCU tune and when you switch over to bypass mode, the throttle response and engine feels comparatively lazy and dull. It's the very first mod that I recommend to someone who is frustrated with the factory throttle response.

I bought a black faceplate for mine, and sit it inside the coin holder/storage compartment near the driver's right hand knee. No need to have it visible all the time IMHO as it's a set and forget proposition.

Good buying at $139 for the X9 at present.

Seriously, it's the same car with some different body panels, just less parts availability. An updated Passat CC (even called a CC in China) that's indistinguishable from the inside. I was actually going to post this on the Passat B8 forum.

Thanks, good to know. I'll check it out =)

I've spent a lot of time/money trying to improve the lazy throttle-response and (hopefully) the solution may have just been a throttle controller...

Some Up! driving eco-warrior from Wolfsburg probably programmed it that way, thinking that he knows far better what I want from the engine when frustratingly pumping the go-pedal (trying to wake up the lazy engine). In all seriousness, it's probably Greta from the EU gestapo putting increasing pressure on VW to make their cars more boring.

For info - APR engine tunes now include throttle remapping - so no need for a 'throttle controller' with those ECU tunes.
    Cheers

With how popular the Burger Motorsports JB1 and JB 4 are, im suprised that ive never seen anyone using the Burger Motorsports throttle controller: Burger Motorsports Pedal Tuner '-' BMW, VW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Kia, Honda | AutoInstruct

I was going to buy the Burger Motorsports throttle controller for my Audi SQ5 as the throttle lag was terrible on this car, but they could not confirm if it would work on a diesel - so I ended up buying a Torqit Pedaltorq throttle controller which is made for diesels. It works really well. Heaps of adjustability but I have it one one of the lower settings which made a significant improvement to the throttle delay without making the car feel too lively in traffic.

Yeah, you're spot in - just a bit of self-deprecation on my part

You really can't go wrong with the HikeIT - especially when they are on sale.

The HikeIT on S0 (or maybe S1) is what VW should have done from the factory.

Beware of the HikeIT "H" mode though - massive overkill and turns the throttle into a light-switch. S mode on a low gain setting is all that is required (in my experience anyway).

Interesting... I like the idea of the anti-theft mode that HikeIT offers. Nice looking device at a great price.

The APR option is wireless (with mobile app and remote control), but is quite expensive to buy in Australia - currently $519 (A$365/US$249 in the US). Maybe it's just new and not widely stocked yet.

My tune is RacingLine, along with my hardware upgrades. So makes sense to stick with that - an APR tune would cost more than the controller anyway. But good to know for anyone starting from scratch.

My logic (and experience) has been that once you find the setting you like, you typically leave it there with no further fiddling. Because I'm a tight-so-and-so, I went with the most affordable option that is fit for purpose as some of the bells and whistles on the fancier units were surplus to my requirements. It all comes down to user preferences though!

Couldn't agree more - its a set-and-forget type of device. Once I got mine set to a level I was happy with I haven't touched it since......that was about 3 years ago.

Yeah, I figured that'd probably be the case. It's more of a fix for the crappy OEM throttle mapping.

The APR doesn't have anti-theft mode either - does anyone use that? But it is wireless with custom mapping via mobile app... still very hard to justify the higher price.
