    Carbon fiber mirror caps

I ordered some (real) carbon fiber mirror caps after a couple of unsuccessful attempts at making them myself. They were on special for just over twice the price of the "blanks" I'd been buying to cover with carbon cloth.

The quality/finish are great, though slightly thicker than what I had previously made. You can't fake the shimmer/glow of real carbon:

Installation is easy once you get the mirror (glass) out. I'm always over-gentle/nervous. A small suction cup is very handy, in addition to a plastic trim tool:

Some previous "home-made" attempts with varying levels of success...

They look kinda nice but to me are lost against the black. A brushed chrome would work better IMHO.
The contrast would work better against a white or other light colour.

The color is quite difficult to capture in a photo. It varies a lot depending on lighting, from subtle highlights in the dark, to full silvery-metal shine in full sunlight. Sort of like an extreme, textured metallic paint.

This one shows the full light tone slightly better, but you still need to see them in person. Completely different to the fake carbon prints you can get:

Yeah, personally I'm quite into the "stealthy" carbon on black look - slowly adding carbon highlights here and there (inside and out). Been thinking of if/how I could do the brake inlets and will probably replace the lip spoiler soon (paint is starting to flake/chip in a couple of places - seems to be a common issue).

Did (briefly) look at brushed chrome options, but decided it wouldn't really suit this car that well - IMHO.

Gotta love a bit of carbon

I like the stealth look too - more of a sleeper IMO.
    Cheers
