    The wombles win !!

Well the wombles have won again, despite having used touch screen buttonless phones for ages (after saying they’d never work) and Tesla being praised up hill and down dale for doing it, the Volkswagen old school (many of whom haven’t even got a mk8 Golf or similar) seem to have won the day. Thankfully I’m one of those who got in early. Anybody care to bet how many years before Haptic Touch controls return ??

Yeah. It's pathetic. With the indents and raised sections, they are very good. The thing I think trumps the old buttons is their swipe ability (swipe up to raise cruise speed by 10kph, swipe to change audio volume). I hired a car a couple of months ago with buttons, and it seemed archaic. I think of buttons like an old Nokia phone, compared to a touchscreen on a smartphone.

Such a retrograde step, VW. Shame the motoring journalists like to create sensational comments &/or haven't had time to become familiar with the system.

Really ??? So all the cell phones in the world have it wrong ?? I’m nearly 70 and have zero issues with the haptic controls, they’re great, it’s just a bunch of sheep listening to some motoring journalists who think they know more than the owners !! By the way …. common sense is not so common any more !!!

A cell phone is a personal device, not great to use while walking/running.

Tactile buttons and switches belong in cars.

    The Mk7.5 was peak Golf.

Well, you should not be using a mobile phone while driving
I like tactile buttons for AC controllers that are low down, can adjust them without looking away from the road.

Hate to tell you but it’s only the steering wheel buttons they’re changing, not the touch screens !!

I respectfully note it seems the people in this thread who don't like the haptic touch buttons, are people who don't have a mk8 Golf.
After a week or two with the mk8, I found it feels a very retrograde step to go back to 1990's nokia-phone-style buttons. The haptic feedback and the touch and swipe of the mk8 is great, really great, after you get some experience with it.
