Goodbye to the terrible DQ200.............dont let the door hit your arse on your way out.
Seems all lower Golfs have now done away with the DSG and have a new 8spd proper automatic across all 1.4TSI models including the incoming wagons. Some reliability at last ....![]()

Agree. Good riddance DQ200. Torque converter auto should be a good match to the little 1.4. Should make for a very smooth drive.

Never had a problem with any of the DQ200's in 4 different cars, over 9 years and 250k's not an issue. No DSG means we (my family) will not be replacing the current Golfs with any fitted with stinking torque converter autos. At least GTi's and R's still have DSG's.
Cheers

Actually I remember you did have an issue .... Polo GTI 6C buying advice so you cannot claim to have had no issues .... and that was on the 7spd dry clutch too ...

There are 2x main/common (far too common) faults with this gearbox. One being the clutches failing prematurely causing slipping and shuddering, and the other being the mechatronics failing causing rough shifts or simply failing to shift which usually results in the car only being able to use odd or even gears but not both like it normally would.
Its still a 25% failure rate in your household. In real world terms even that is unacceptably high. In other less fortunate households many owners had 2 issues during their ownership of the cars .....
And the massive DSG recall from VWA was all about the mechatronics failing in some way. Yours was therefore a typical and totally expected failure.
Also very common is the clutches failing which is more down to the way Aussies drive autos then anything else. Creeping is the killer of a DSG clutch pack.
Typically many owners would have both issues in a 3-5 year period, some even more than that.
Note, almost none of the failures are actually mechanical components of the box.
For everyday reliable use in most drivers' hands, the DSG was simply too unreliable and too costly for VW to keep going with. The new auto will be far more reliable and less expensive to own over the long term.
I see it as a win for customers and it will go a long way to lift VW from being regarded as unreliable by the public.

I had a 100% failure rate from 2 DSG's. One 6sp in a R32 and one 7sp in an Audi Q5.
